He will tell a story that I think will make people's hair curl.
Matthews himself must know something about the book, "At the Center of the Storm," because he said, before kicking it to the columnist, "Tenet takes on vice president Dick Cheney. Cheney has maintained that Tenet told President Bush in December of 2002, two weeks before Bush decided to invade Iraq, that there was a 'slam dunk' case to be made that Saddam Hussein possessed those banned weapons. But now Tenet denies ever making that claim. David, this is a big fight. It's pushback time. How tough is this book gonna be?

Ignatius replied: "It's going be very tough. George Tenet has been doing a slow burn ever since he left the CIA. He's been angrier and angrier as he saw himself being essentially made the fall guy on WMD in Iraq. And he's gonna come back saying he and his agency, the CIA, were pushed, again and again, by Cheney and Cheney's people to give him the answers that they wanted. And he's got chapter and verse on that."

He added: "He will tell a story that I think will make people's hair curl. But he's been waiting a long time to tell this....And he'll also say---this is a very important part of this---that, on the question of what would happen in Iraq after the invasion, the CIA pretty consistently warned, 'You have trouble ahead. You will not be able to unite this country. Sunnis and Shiites are gonna be 'at daggers.'"

2. If Tenet was a patriot, or even a humanist, he should have
been screaming this stuff from the rooftops BEFORE this war of choice. Too many of these guys don't speak out until they are selling a book.

3. This could be one of the most important of the "what happened" books
that have come out detailing the screw-ups and arrogance that led to this war. Tenet obviously has some pretty severe scores to settle and it sounds like he is going to settle them.

I look forward to reading this and to the controversy that will erupt around the publication of this book. Another nail in the coffin of the Bush Administration.

6. Wondering How Tenet Got Approval To Release This Book....
All former employees have to have their work reviewed and approved by the CIA, and in some cases the White House, before they can release their book for publication.

I seem to recall Joe Wilson saying that Valerie intended to write a book but that she could not get approval without everything being redacted.

7. The CIA wants this bookout? They want the country to know what * and Cheney did in spite of
warnings and cautions?

It's never a good idea to mess with the CIA. They'll get even.

14. I think that's possible - not only that there's been speculation
some of the leaks coming from the CIA, and maybe some of the big leaks, may have been from Tenet.

I would guess Darth Cheney is not a popular guy around the CIA, and I agree with you - they WILL get even.

21. Bingo
Those professional spooks that were telling the truth about WMD were NOT pleased by Crashcart and Rummy's setting up a parallel "intelligence" creation department. I remember hearing some spying insider (maybe "Anonymous" the author who later disclosed his identity) on Franken shortly after the 2004 election that the career spooks were deserting the CIA in droves because they regarded Goss as Cheney's errand boy to punish the Agency for not toeing the Chimpy/Cheney line.

They were, he said, mightily pissed off at being ignored, pressured to cook the books or both. The real pros in the spook business are not people to be fucked with lightly. I suspect that Tenet's book is going to ream the Chimp, Shooter, Condimelda and Rummy some new orifices.

8. I recall
reading an article prior to the invasion of Iraq in which the CIA warned the Bush government EXACTLY why they should not attack Iraq and precisely what would happen if they did. And they were absolutely bang on in their prediction. So I was surprised when I heard the Bushies say that Tenet said it was a "slam dunk" and was all for it. Way back before the attack I didn't read anything that was in favour coming out of the CIA. This book should be innerestin'.

11. Civil war has always been the most likely scenario according to the CIA book
and the CIA has reiterated this every year since the invasion.

12. Dear Mr. Tenet. Don't fucking LIE ABOUT REASONS TO GO TO WAR
you cowardly piece of dogshit. It's Cheney's fault for pushing? No it's YOUR fault for bending.

Fuck off. I hope your book sells three copies.

18. Why wasn't he called for the Plame hearing?
He WAS head of the CIA when the outing happened.

In fact, I don't even remember hearing any comments from Tenet about the Plame affair.

seems to me that several people including Cheney should have been called to the witness stand.

the evidence is clear that Tenet was the one who told Bush NOT to mention the Niger docs in any speeches. He said the info was false. It was Cheney and Bush who ignored Tenet's plea (and the facts).

20. Whatever. I'm not buying this coward's book! He had his chance,...
,...accepted a bullshit medal from the corporate war machine.

I have no belief that this man is going to expose some NEW revelation. To the contrary, I believe he'll do an expose of perpetual excuses and faux reasons for the whole damned fraud of which he CHOSE to be a co-conspirator.

I'll not pay a nickel to read ANY of the conspirators' tales,...NOT ONE DAMN PENNY!!!
