The frightening silencing of Americans. "Unreal" a post by Ro
Like Rosie or not.....this is just wrong. The comparison on the right between Imus and Rosie is ridiculous and unreal!

http://www.rosie.com/blog/2007/04/14/unreal/

unreal
Posted by ro on April 14th at 4:12pm in home
a huge terrible storm is coming
a nor easter
the potential hail has bumped imus
off r top story tonight

i was on the stoprosie site

• “You know, this President invaded a sovereign nation in defiance of the UN. He is basically a war criminal. Honestly. He should be tried at The Hague.”
• “Don’t fear the terrorists. They’re mothers and fathers.”
• “Democracy is threatened in a way it hasn’t been in 200 years and if America doesn’t stand up we’re in big trouble.”

correct quotes
thank you ethan
well done

and yes i stand by all of them
however on number 2
i would like the word terrorist
in quotations

dont fear “TERRORISTS” - they are mothers and fathers

u see
since terror been used to scare americans
since 9 11
terrorists - terrorists - everywhere
all of them - bad guys
terrorists - after us - here and there
they sold it
we bought it

we gave away r civil liberties
fear works

the 911 terrorists
most came from saudi arabia
and we invaded 2 other countries
minor details

here is the point
i was trying to make
to elisabeth
who cant see any of “them”
as anything but terrorists

hundreds of thousands of humans
not “terrorists”
iraqi mothers and fathers
have been killed by US

those innocent ones
the mothers and fathers
they r not “terrorists”

try to paint with a huge brush
a big mess

borderlines everywhere

the media has demonized arabs
the facts about the death toll on all sides
is sickening and under reported

i am against this war
i support all the troops
i want them home

i have decided that from now on
i will talk about other things
on the view

like y thousands still live in renaissance village
18 months after katrina

or that 28 million american children live in dire poverty

that 1/2 of all black and hispanic kids in america
do not graduate from high school

1 in 150 autistic = EPIDEMIC

half a million children r in foster care
they r lost
the system is broken

from now on i will not raise my voice
about this criminal administration
i am sick of screaming IMPEACH

unreal
from now on i will say
unreal
ok
just know on the inside
i will be yelling

unreal
i am registering as an independent
cause i am sick of both sides
cowardly silence

as democracy dies

finally a blog
no pray
no play

2. Is there anyone who thinks Rosie is playing with a full deck?
Seriously, folks. "Don't fear terrorists. They're fathers and mothers." Unless she's speaking in some weird code, she's either full of shit, delusional, or retarded.

Regardless.... :silly: :wtf:

4. Clearly, you didn't read what she wrote, or hear what she said
Edited on Mon Apr-16-07 09:59 AM by lynyrd_skynyrd
She wrote that the word "terrorists" be written just as I have written it: With quotation marks.

Context is everything. This is how the right wing has successfully brainwashed a good percentage of the American population. See: "Swiftboating".

10. Ok. I read it for the third time.
Edited on Mon Apr-16-07 10:57 AM by Buzz Clik
I guess you're saying that she's talking in some sort of code. The clue should have been her use of all lower case letters and free-form verse. That's convenient -- the reader can take home whatever he/she wants.

I don't know what a "terrorist" is, but I know what a terrorist is. They're people who lop off heads with swords on videos; blow themselves up while killing one or two others, maybe more; perform gangland-style executions on their fellow countrymen by the thousands. They don't keep me awake, and I cannot justify compromising my life out of fear of them. But, they should be feared, whether or not they are mothers and fathers. Some of them are children.

Nobody has to swiftboat Rosie. As long as she keeps having feuds with bad comb-overs, launching into tirades about 9/11 conspiracies, and similar insanity, then she is swiftboating herself. As for me, I'm just watching the show.

22. I like William Blum's definition...
"A terrorist is someone who has a bomb but doesn't have an air force."

Sorry you can't see that.

14. Hey, I work too. 16 hours a day
I leave "the View" on in the background because I now work at home. I had been working in a major film studio before I went freelance and was accustomed to a busy environment, so leaving the TV on while I work helps me to feel comfortable and focus. Don't assume that those of us who listen in on these shows aren't earning a living while doing so.

Rosie is far more articulate on the television program than she is on her blog. She consistently holds her own against a relentless right wing shill named Elizabeth, who is one of the program's co-hosts.(And I'm sure Elizabeth is faxed RW talking points from Rove every morning).

20. I agree about your take on Elisabeth getting her RW talking points
daily...she spouts the same crap as Rush, Hannity, etc. on a daily basis. I think Rosie is great...I find myself nodding and agreeing with her very often these days.

7. Like most ordinary Canadians
terrorists are about the last thing I fear. I think Americans grossly over-estimate the danger they are in from terrorists. I would be terrified of my own government if I lived in the U.S. and as a Canadian I do feel nervous about the American government's foreign policy. But terrorists? They have done a good job of indoctrinating Americans if you believe terrorists are a threat. Had it not been for the incompetence (or WORSE) of the Bush government 9/11 would not have happened. It should not have happened.

As for Rosie she may not be attractive to some folks who shrink from vulgarity but she's bang on. I don't watch TV except for Colbert and Jon Stewart so I don't really know what I'm talking about. Ignore me.

8. I know it's hard to read.
With all the 'r' for 'are' and such, but it seemed coherent to me, and not all that far from positions espoused here daily.

Now I wonder which deck you're playing with and who's full of shit, delusional or perhaps retarded, unless, there's an agenda?

13. Irony or dichotomy? I can't decide.
Maybe neither.

Nothing more personal there than what you meant in those words about Rosie.

Even after your third reading, per your post above, you clearly don't get that she's speaking about the innocents killed in our name under the cover fighting terrorists.

I'm not a fan of her, nor am I her enemy, but I do see her point which is the same point made here very often.

17. No more personal than your jab:
Unless she's speaking in some weird code, she's either full of shit, delusional, or retarded.

Certainly less personal than post #3.

All I did was substitute 'an agenda' for 'weird code' and paraphrase your words, to illustrate an apparent (to me) bias and raise the question: Why?

21. ROFL
Care to answer the question I asked in the first response to you? What's your agenda?

You know I'm most likely not Rosie, and I'll confirm that I'm not Rosie. It was still a personal attack on her using misquoted material. That's a theme that you are repeating in this thread. Where I was raised we called that bullshit.

I wouldn't have any problem at all if you would quote her accurately and disagree or call her the mother of all she-women-man-haters. It just pisses me off when I see fellow DUers using republic tactics.

12. She's not speaking in code
at all.

It's a commentary written in kind of a poem style. That's all.

She's saying that we lable everybody in the ME as "terrorists" EVEN IF they are average mothers and fathers just like us. I

don't know what's so hard or wierd about saying that.

19. Got it. And her declarations of WTC conspiracies were a metaphor for phone tapping?
Sorry, but Rosie made a bizarre statement and is now back pedalling like crazy.

I'll give her credit for recognizing that her original statement was totally insane.
