Attorney: Oklahoma bombing tapes appear edited

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) – Long-secret security tapes showing the chaos immediately after the 1995 bombing of the Oklahoma City federal building are blank in the minutes before the blast and appear to have been edited, an attorney who obtained the recordings said yesterday.
"The real story is what's missing," said Jesse Trentadue, a Salt Lake City attorney who obtained the recordings through the federal Freedom of Information Act as part of an unofficial inquiry he is conducting into the April 19, 1995, bombing that killed 168 people and injured hundreds more.
Trentadue gave copies of the tapes to The Oklahoman newspaper, which posted them online and provided copies to The Associated Press……(snip)

"Four cameras in four different locations going blank at basically the same time on the morning of April 19, 1995. There ain't no such thing as a coincidence," Trentadue said.

5. The tape-changing explanation sounds reasonable - I can imagine that

the tapes are changed at the start of each workday, and the guards get around to it once they've made coffee and shot-the-shit a little bit. They need to get tapes from these locations for some random other day, and see if there are little gaps...

distress based on Fed handling of his brother's death. I don't know what the current status of the case is

Googling reveals a number of associated conspiracy theories: the brother was beaten to death as a suspect in the bombing; the brother was set up as a patsy; the bombing was an inside job, &c &c ... It's unclear to me which of these theories originate with the attorney, and I'm not interested enough to sort out the origins of the various claims. For example, there seems to be a claim floating about that the attorney got a deposition from Nichols to the effect that McVeigh had said he bombed the Federal building under the direction of an FBI agent who had also been involved in the Ruby Ridge and Waco Branch Davidian incidents. This suggests that the attorney has become something of a hero in certain rightwing wacko circles

I wouldn't expect whoever was in charge of replacing the tapes would put a high priority on popping a new tape in after they had heard and felt that explosion. More likely they would have been in full "WTF was that!!" mode.

like the multiple tapes that were seized from businesses by the feds on 9/11. Four cameras capture "something" crashing into the pentagram.. er.. pentagon, and yet only a few seconds of which from only one camera are released? I sooooo don't trust our government, which sucks but after Kennedy, and RFK, and MLK, and Oklahoma City, and Waco, and 9/11, I'd have to be a fool to trust them. All of those "official stories" have holes big enough to fly a jumbo jet through.

This will not put to rest the belief that Timothy McVeigh did not act alone. If there were others with him when he set up the bomb, they would not show up at all on the security tapes because they are now blank.

I have never discounted the "sting gone wrong" theory. Has the FBI always waited until the last minute (and with fake explosives) to thwart an attack (ala Dallas & Springfield)? Maybe OKC was what changed things and John Doe #2 was the FBI contact?

The government bombed itself? I'm not opposed to some third man accomplice theory if there is any PROOF discovered, but the usual "government cover-up" conspiracy hoo-ha? Not so much. I've read the entire trial testimony, and the story presented satisfies me at this point. The defense wasn't able to poke many credible holes in the government theory. Although I wasn't totally impressed with the defense's case, probably the guy was just guilty and they didn't have a whole heck of a lot to work with. Course, McVeigh being dead, it can never really be revisited first hand.
