Over the last few months I've attended at least a dozen community events on the subject of health care reform. A couple of those meetings were held in living rooms; the rest were in libraries, schools, churches, parks and community centers. All were advertised to the public. Today's meeting with Sen. Bennet (D-CO) was held in a public venue. (link to my earlier OP about the meeting is given below)
Today was the first time, in my experience anyway, that an attendee self-identified as an employee of the health insurance industry, in this case, an agent. She made a brief statement about some state-level legislation and was cheered and applauded for her comments by those opposed to reform. Not surprisingly, those same people jeered and shouted down the medical doctor who described his experience working in New Zealand's state-run health care system.
One tiny step into something new and different, one giant leap backwards into same old same old.
