1. I thought that a key part of the plan is that those things that are prevention
oriented would not have a co pay

2. Do you think it should be required that people obtain those prevention oriented

services?

6. Its a difficult question to answer in the abstract

In some cases, especially regarding Public Health issues, the answer is yes.

In general if it is made accessible and free most people will avail themselves of it without coercion.

A more successful approach, I would guess, is to incentivize participation in prevention.

In England Doctors are rewarded by the more preventative practices that they can instill in their patients. This is probably the most logical way to improve outcome.

7. The preventative tests won't do you any good
if your policy has deductibles and copays that are so high you can't afford any follow up the tests indicate you need.

I always wonder about these outfits that advertise free or reduced costs mammograms for women who are uninsured or under insured. They never tell you happens if the test shows anything that needs more tests. It can cost several thousand dollars to find out the weirdness on the x-ray is not cancer.

3. Well, your poll discusses what should be purchased, I don't see the connect.
If people have to buy it, then people have to use it. Without fear of rates going up. It's all good.

4. You don't have to use it just because you have to buy it.

5. If they have to buy it, they can chose to use it or not. If they don't, they don't.

is that what you mean?

Edited to add that your poll asks if they should have to purchase it while your subject line asks if they should have to use it. Please clarify.

8. Do you think we should mandate that people use their health insurance
Edited on Sat Sep-26-09 10:30 PM by RB TexLa
should receiving treatment be required.

I meant if it's mandated to have it, should people be required by law to use it to purchase medical services.

9. there should be a waiver for people who's religion will not allow modern medical
procedures to be used on them

there is no reason to force them to contribute into a system they will never use

(or a greatly reduced rate if they can still receive some basic care)

11. You need universal health care, you need universal participation
I know this is something people don't get

12. So if people do not use the plan they are required to purchase or a government plan

do you suggest a punishment for them? Or a way to force them to utilize healthcare?
