Why hasn't a bill offering health care for all children made it to Bush's desk yet?
Remember how shortly after the 2004 election John Kerry had that online petition to support a bill which would provide health care for all children in the United States? It seemed like a really shrewd political move. Being more modest than universal health care, it faced a much better chance of getting passed. Moreover, if Republicans dared to oppose it, it would make them look cruel and heartless.

For a couple of years, this didn't go anywhere, and the excuse we'd been offered was that the GOP controlled everything including the media, effectively silencing the issue. But now we've been running Capitol Hill for about 3 months, so this excuse doesn't fly.

What's going on with this? Anybody know?

4. I'm pretty sure that the wealthiest country in the world could devise
a way to finance a program to offer health care for all of its children.

My health insurance just went up again, and the benefits just went down. I am damn tired of having the most expensive crappy healthcare system on the planet.

6. I'm all for that.
The question here though is why can't they even take the most modest low political risk steps on this issue.

5. I'd really like to think that Kennedy and Boxer are above
an "I've got mine, fuck everybody else" mentality.
