Gwen Iifill is moderator and managing editor of Washington Week and senior correspondent for The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer.

Ifill spent several years as a Washington Week panelist before taking over the moderator's chair in October 1999.

Before coming to PBS, she spent five years at NBC News as chief congressional and political correspondent. While at NBC, she covered the premier political stories affecting the nation, including national political campaigns and conventions, legislation before Congress and the impeachment of President Clinton.

Her reports appeared on NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw, Today, Meet the Press and MSNBC, the all-news cable network. A veteran journalist, Ifill joined NBC News from The New York Times where she covered the White House and politics. She also covered national and local affairs for The Washington Post, Baltimore Evening Sun and Boston Herald American.

Gwen Ifill is easily among the top journalists in the country. My main concern is whether MSNBC would produce a show worthy of her talents - something that goes beyond mere 'entertainment.'

It would be poetic justice on an epic scale if the woman Imus once derided as 'the cleaning lady' took over his time slot on the same network.

2. Hello? Did some DUers forget how horrendous Ifill was

moderating the DEM Presidential debates? What an absolute parrot for RW talking points she has been over the past six years? How true she is to her "good buddy" Condi Rice and all her ilck?

I credit Ifill with doing a wonderful job on the Imus issue this morning. But could we refrain from the tunnel vision and selective memory? :shrug:

and I wouldn't waste my time watching any show with her on it. I sometimes watch the NewsHour on PBS but I change the channel when it is her segment.
