Questionable practices get scrutiny at Salisbury VA hospital

Five Years ago, a doctor at the Salbury veterans hospital warned the pneumonia patients were at increased risk of dying because many weren't getting medicine promptly.

Dr. Paul Karmin urged action. "Patients have died or will die," he wrote an e-mail to hospital manager.

His review of pneumonia care from 2001 to 2003 indicated 61 of 97 patients didn't get medicine at the beneficial time, according to documents he gave the Observer. Of those, at least seven died at the hospital, some days of admission, according to Observer review.

Patient come in with infection cultures are taken but if the patient is to be admitted treatment gets delayed or falls of the charts completely between units, it can be many hours before antibiotic treatment get started, until this is addressed in the hospitals protocol your voice is the only remedy to get it under way. been there done that more than once.
