“Skagit Against Hate” is a diverse group of people living in Mount Vernon and Skagit County and which includes people of all political persuasions. We have come together to make it known to our country as well as the world community that we disagree with Mayor Bud Norris.

Free speech is an American value but Hate speech is not free speech. It endangers us all. It incites, it creates terror, it can incite terrorist and extremist acts. Hate is not our value and Hate is not tolerated by the citizens in Skagit County and Mount Vernon Washington.


We will protest and take actions to make our voices heard and our presence
known in peaceful action.

2. I hope everyone noted that the city council repudiated the mayor's decision tonight...

Not that it will have any effect, as the ceremony is something the mayor is able to do on his own, but I hope some people around here, who seem to love picturing Mount Vernon as "a little bit of the deep South in the Northwest," might stop and think before spreading their prejudice. Mount Vernon is a blue area of Washington state, reliably voting for Democrats at the national and state level (all three of their state legislators are Democrats) -- it's just the mayor who's being an idiot.
