and claim that I have a BIG problem with the IRS, but that I have a large amount of cash and I'm interested in tax shelters. I begin by suggesting some stupid, crude ideas cobbled together from misreads of Internet articles of off shore tax havens. The lawyers quickly advise how bad these ideas are and, instead, suggest that there are legal alternatives that meet all my requirements.
But here’s the sting: I secretly videotape the whole thing, unfairly edit it to death and then present it to the media as evidence that said firm went out of their way to steer me into questionable tax havens.
Now, do you think said Wall Street Firm:
1.) Fires all the lawyers involved in hopes of regaining credibility?
2.) Sues the fuck out of me for slander, possibly preferring charges for videotaping a legal consultation without their permission?
And how would the media play it? Would they play the Wall Street Firm as the villain or would I be exposed as the worst kind of sleazeball yellow journalist?
I think we know the answers. And the above scenario is actually mild compared to what Fox News just did to ACORN:
