Is too much of a problem in this country.
It's at the heart of why people who don't fit the narrowly defined hetero "norm" find themselves being discriminated against, and many times, in all kinds of peril, mortal and otherwise.
It's at the heart of why ridiculous arguments are proffered that the institution of marriage is dangered by homosexual couples, when legally authorized divorce is extant.
None of the neo-puritans want to discuss the possibility that the people in those broken marriages probably should have never gotten married in the first place.
Rather than being part of the accepted norm, many gays have opted to be part of highly visible gay rights campaign. If that puritanical concern were not the case, gay marriage would be just as unremarkable as straight marriage.
And on the other hand, rabid homophobia has an accepted foothold in the "marketplace of ideas."
Now why I wrote this: I find it amazing that on DU that there is concern by some about how others, who are unlike themselves, choose to mate. And whether or not one should be disgusted about it.
It really doesn't freaking matter.
How one consenting adult chooses to, or is impelled mate because of their sexual orientation, is only a matter for that person and the other consenting adult.
The "Ick" factor is just a way to proffer bullshit and it's pretty damn juvenile.
As a straight male, I refuse to be pigeonholed with the thinking that I need to judge others because of whom they sleep with.
As an addendum, I shouldn't have to remind you that a lot of straight folks are fucking up a storm too, many employing all kinds of alternative practices.
But as long as coercion isn't used and it stays out of the courts, more power to them, I say.
