2. Of course, the metal detectors had been in place for many years

before 2001. It's just that we were letting things like box cutters through. I remember always carrying my pocketknife on the airlines. I just had to put in the bin, then pick it up after the x-ray machine.

And that's the problem, really. Regulations are in place. We're just not paying attention too much...why...because we're getting all that money from those lobbyists.
