One of my previous jobs was as a Resident Assistant (RA) in student housing. For those who don't know an RA lives in student housing, helps the students with problems, enforces whatever laws there are and in return gets to live there for free and maybe a small stipend. Not the world's worst job.
One night I had a student on another floor (in my case i was in charge of one floor in a 6 story building) come and tell me his pants had been stolen out of the student laundry. What's more he had a suspect already, a Muslim foreign exchange student. After a moment's discussion it became clear that his chief piece of evidence was that the other student was Muslim / from the middle east (he also claimed to have seen him wearing his pants). At this point I was somewhat disgusted with him, but of course had to look into it. I was fairly convinced that the Muslim Student was innocent. After he was questioned by the person in charge of the building (we called her Dorm Mother? but she had an official title which I have forgotten) the Muslim student confessed to stealing the pants, and I was terribly disappointed.
That's kind of how I feel about this ACORN story; part of me is certain that there is more to those tapes we haven't seen, that this "sting" stinks to high heaven and that it's all nonsense. Because we all know what the real reason to go after ACORN is; we all know why they wanted to hurt them. It has to do with Race and with who the President is. But it is looking more and more like that part of me is wrong. Now I know that we are talking 5-6 employees out of several thousand, but it is pretty bad.
It's very frustrating.
