His rant about Robertson's law school was a barn burner. Bradley was fantastic and Dana Carvey brought in just the right amount of humor.

5. did they show Scotty's face when Maher referred to "President Shit for Brains?"
Edited on Fri Apr-13-07 11:51 PM by Gabi Hayes
that whole rant must have been excruciating for him, the porky little jellomold. hope he had to change his greasy shorts after the show

I heard it, but my screen is scrambled; only get audio, and I'm not paying HBO, that's for sure

8. That's what made the rant especially delicious
I can't remember seeing the cameras pan to Scotty. I think Bill turned his attention toward him at least once during the rant. I'm going to watch it again tomorrow -- it was THAT good.

36. Bill turned to him after the shit for brains comment
and said "Sorry, Scott," but they didn't show Scotty's face during the rest of the rant. I kept thinking about how much he must have been squirming while Bill ranted. He was probably sorry he agreed to be on the show at all. I don't think I've ever seen Bill have an all-male panel.

6. His commentary at the end was amazing.
And he's sooooo right-I do believe that most of the problems we are having with this administration is sheer fucking incompetence. They can't do anything. And the reason is just what he stated-the country isn't being run by elites, it's being run by hayseeds. And his final statement was the best-Goodling went out and got herself a real lawyer from a good law school.

7. Wrong...Wrong...Wrong...
I thought the show that aired this evening SUCKED.
And I've watched every Real Time either "live" or DVR.
I watched "live" tonight and I found it to be lame and without impact.

First off...ENOUGH WITH THE COMEDIANS!
Dana Carvey added NOTHING.
He was irritating and contributed nothing of any substance.
How many more George H.W.Bush and Jimmy Stewart imitations do I need to hear?
He added NOTHING.

Scotty the Underbear.
What the hell does he bring to the conversation, other than to defend the right wing spin we are all sick of?

Bradley was OK, but for the most part he was hitting pitches right in his wheelhouse.

Crowe and her girlfriend added nothing but eye candy and jokes about how they shower together.
Sharpton and the IMUS thing... well I've heard it a thousand times this week.

Until he gets people like Randi Rhodes, Mike Malloy and Sam Seder on the show to sit between the left iconoclast and the right iconoclast, he's just spinning his wheels.

Tell me ONE valid thing that Dana Carvey contributed to this jerk fest.
ONE THING.

I want my hour back.

10. Except for Christopher Hitchens, Carvey was possibly the worst guest
I've ever seen on this show. It was almost embarrassing to watch his dumb and uninformed non sequiturs and he constantly derailed topics that were being pursued by the more intelligent memberes of the panel and even Puffy McMoonface. Maher and Bradley would be on the verge of nailing McMoonface to the wall for some dumbass statement he made and Carvey would break in with some totally meaningless comment about Clinton. By the time the new rules rolled around even my wife was yelling shut the fuck up at him.

Other than that though I thought it was an OK show. Not one of the best but not as bad as some.

20. At least Williams can keep it current
..and more relevant. And, I have seen him turn it off on occaision when it warrants for him to make his point at least. Maybe not often enough in this venue but he does.
As for Carvey, someone posted the line-up late last week and I had replied that he would be a tool because he doesn't know how to NOT be on and even though I have yet to watch this episode, my instincts on Carvery sound like they were right.
Let's face it, Carvey has had NO career since leaving SNL. Hang it up dude....

13. I've only seen about half of it and I have to agree with you
The "comedic interludes" (*cough* *cough*) by Carvey got old real quick.

About Scotty. I always like it when Bill "Free Speech" Maher chastizes the audience to be nice and withhold their opinions (i.e., booing of the RW guests and their talking points).

It has been replayed yet but Sheryl's girlfriend is Laurie David, the wife of Larry David. She was the main impetus to making An Inconvenient Truth.

I agree. I want real liberals. Not the same recycled ones that Bill invites to stay "hip".

17. And do you really thing that Rhodes, Malloy and Seder
will agree to be "guests" on someone else's show?

We are talking with big egos - I do not mean this in a derogatory term but each has his/her own show and like to run it around themselves.

The only exceptions, on occasions, are Blitzer and Olbermann who do bring Bill Maher on.

30. I wouldn't condemn all comedians
DL Hughley, for one, did a great job a few weeks ago.

The worst for Carvey, I thought, was when he got faux serious and brought up the Faux News talking point of Sen. Obama's middle name. One might think that when you have a first name as androgynous as Dana, you might want to be a little more conscientious.

Plus, Maher should have known about O'Reilly's worst nightmare, Media Matters.

9. I might add that the...
NEW RULES was on the money.
There is nothing wrong with wanting the "elite" to represent us in the White House.
There was nothing "elite" about the "Heckuva a Job Brownie" distribution of jobs and appointments of this stupid monkey to important positions in his administration.

almost looked as if he was testing how far he could go.

One could almost feel the jaw dropping by many in the audience.

19. It wasn't horrible, but Carvey almost dragged the whole show down by himself
Even Puffy McMoonface didn't annoy me as much as Carvey. At least with Puffy you already know hes gonna be spewing out talking points all hour long, Carvey was just annoying. Like another poster mentioned earlier, I too was shouting "Shut the fuck up!" at the tv. Although I do gotta give Puffy props for having the guts to do the show in the first place, even if he is a puke. I wish Bradley would have chimed in a bit more, but he did alright.

The bright spot of the show was Mahers commentary on new rules, it was brilliant and it saved the show.

23. I'm very mixed about it. First, Dana Carvey had no right being on that panel. Secondly,
Scottie is still towing the party line of lies and there were times when he was called on them but Bradley, although bringing reason and rationality as to why we can't "win", did not successfully shut Scottie down entirely. When Scottie repeated a couple of times that we went to war on a bi-partisan consensus, not one person on that panel screamed about the lies.

Also, why didn't Maher bring up the missing emails and made light of Corzine's accident?

So a B for Bradley, an F for Carvey, and F for Scottie and a C for Maher.

25. Bill Maher is on the "get off the air" list

heard on a talking head program last night......hes the next target......its about the comment he made about 9-11.

He said the 9-11 terrorists were brave to do what they did.........and who is going to head this campaign.............a GOP'er

then theres this:

Huckabee: If Imus gets fired, Rosie O'Donnell and Bill Maher should be too
By DAN GEARINO, Courier Des Moines Bureau

JOHNSTON --- Republican presidential contender Mike Huckabee said Friday that if Don Imus' comments are offensive enough to get him fired, then many other media personalities should go too, including Rosie O'Donnell and Bill Maher.

snip

"If Imus is going to get fired, then there's a lot of other people that need to go out the door. Rosie (O'Donnell) has probably got to go. Bill Maher has to go. Gosh, half of talk radio and television has to go," Huckabee said.

Huckabee, the former Arkansas governor, made the comments as he began a weekend of campaigning in central Iowa. O'Donnell and Maher have drawn fire over the years for their comments critical of President Bush and of conservatives.

37. Maher addressed that on last night's show
and said that the things he gets in trouble for are true, which in most cases is probably correct. I liked the show last night, but didn't think it was one of the best.

Bradley did very well, Dana Carvey was pretty idiotic, particularly with Obama's name, and Scotty - well, he's just an idiot, still spouting talking points. I thought it was nice of Bill and Dana to comfort him after the "pResident shit for brains" comment, cause I didn't want to see Scotty cry.

The Pat Robertson school (and administration employees that come from it), was news to me - they really DO strive for incompetence.

29. Actually, I thought it was one of Maher's weaker shows...
Dana Carvey was obnoxious, Snotty Scotty just reprised his bs from his former job and Bill Bradley could have been a little more forceful.

When Snotty Scotty kept on saying "bipartisan" I was waiting for either Maher or Bill Bradley to call him on the lies that Bush used to get that "bipartisan" support for the IWR. Instead they both just sat there and let him get away with it.

However, New Rules was excellent last night.

As for getting Maher off the air, good luck. His show is on HBO and in order to get it you have to pay for it. I don't think HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, etc come under the jurisdiction of "free, public" airwaves.
