Would it be better had I stayed ignorant?
Sometimes I wish I had stayed ignorant. Maybe I should just bury my head in the sand because I don't know what the hell it's going to take to get some sanity back. Is there any good to finding the stuff out that I'm finding out?

2. its not fun, but the alternative is making sacrifices to keep
the Gods happy so that they bring fortune instead of misfortune

If you understand whats going on and why, you can possibly affect it.
When your ignorant, you are at the mercies without any recourse

4. I wonder that sometimes too.
I look at the unaware and uneducated (and that has nothing to do with schooling) and how happy they are - ignorance is indeed bliss.

But then I realize that the only way to bring about change is if people who care like me are aware and cognizant of what's going on. And it makes it easier.

6. How many times I have uttered that statement to myself alone
and in many posts here. I used to be completely clueless as to what was going on around me. I attribute that to being a single mother of two children, long work hours, and the MSM.

Without going into detail, it has been a very rude awakening over the last 6 years.

Yes, it was peaceful living in ignorance.

The price of losing ignorance is sharing the knowledge.

12. Erasmus said that in the country of the blind the one eyed man is king.
Erasmus was a flaming optimist.

People don't want to hear it, even my own family won't listen to me when I tell them of the dangers. And it's not because they are freepers or anything like that.

Not to mention that people here at DU have a few things they don't want to hear about either.

I keep bringing up the fact that America has the highest incarceration rate in the world and I keep getting completely ignored.

19. I won't ignore you, Jonathan.
The fact that we have the highest incarceration rate in the world is a hugh problem! Not only do we incarcerate here, but we incarcerate (& torture) in secret prisons all around the world, too!
It speaks to the very soul of our nation, not to mention the amount of $ it costs to keep each prisoner locked up.
"The War on Drugs" is largely to blame. Most are in for drug crimes, mainly marijuana.

When we have so many people acting in violent & unhealthy ways, it only reflects the lack of hope that this country is offering. This is not the land of opportunity anymore; it's the land of the oppressed & depressed.

Families are force to have 2 working parents to make ends meet. Kids are raising themselves because Mom & Dad are never home much. Single-parent homes, especially, are hard-hit with parents often forced to work 2 jobs. Kids don't have enough guidance. Learning about life from MTV, Playboy Channel, etc. because of little to no supervision. And we wonder where the morals have gone. Many of these kids end up in prison.

The economic policies of this admin. are bankrupting this country both fiscally & emotionally. Results = downward spiral. Our only hope is to rectify the unbalanced playing field between the "haves" & the "have-nots". Edwards speaks of this, but is criticized because he has worked hard & managed to acquire some of the king's riches. We must spread the wealth more equitably....not by "who's your daddy?" standards.

10. That's a great point!
I feel the same way. Until 911 happened and the Bush presidency, I didn't really pay alot of attention to world and national news but since I have I've lost that feeling of confidence in my country and my government! Until something drastic like impeachment and procecution happen, then the anxiety will probably stay with me. 911-911-911-War on Terra-War on Terra-war on Terra!

15. Easier? Yes. Better? No.
I ask myself this question sometimes as well. Would it be easier if I went with the flow, stayed the course, and rode out the storm? Of course it would. It's not easy looking through the newspaper, watching TV, or searching the Internets and finding one story after another after another about misconduct in government, scandals, lies, deception, spin, flip-flopping, pandering, hypocrisy, questionable morals, and the constant mistreatment of the men and women of the armed services.

There are times when I watch TV and hear the stories, and my head hurts (whether it's because of some growing tumor of rage or because I'm smacking my forehead/hitting my head on the table, I'm not positive). There are times I feel sick to my stomach when I hear about the web of lies the Bush Administration has wrapped around itself, and it almost makes me laugh to see Dubya and his cronies desperately try to escape the web my weaving even more lies and confusion.

The easier road is to close your eyes, plug your ears, and pretend you don't know anything. The better road is to read all you can, suffer through the headaches and stomach aches with a renewed sense of frustration toward the politics that are twisting this country from a democracy into a dictatorship. If we don't find something that makes us mad, something that enrages us, something that makes us want to change the world... Then we might as well roll over and die right now.

16. It proves that reality changes
and along with it our emotions as well, but opens the door to us realizing by changing the way we look at life we can also change the way we feel about it as well.
Just as we thought we knew the way things were, we can now see that the world is within us.
someone once said, when you change, the world changes, and I believe it to be correct.

23. The ignorant contribute to the rapid demise of freedom & the planet.
Remember, it's the ignorant that got us in this mess to start with.

I often ask myself the same question :pals:, but quickly realize I am not ignorant because I CARED to educate myself. Bet you did, too. Knowledge is a heavy burden. The ignorant remain that way often out of selfishness or denial. I don't want to be either, do you?

Apparently when a fellow DUer is grappling with an issue some of us decide its best to mock and ridicule them. Very nice.

It's more like black humor.

Something to help forget the pain, even if only for a moment.

26. You don't listen to your doctor, do you?
S/he may have some "negative" things to reveal.

Many of us are fond of saying that we live in a reality-based world. One side-effect of that is that you are exposed to the truth (which has a well-known liberal bias). The truth is that right now we are in a Constitutional crisis. Many believe that we lost our country in a silent coup in 2000-2001.

Most of our history is peppered with times and circumstances that try one's soul. We are living in trying times and knowing the truth, despite how depressing, is the only way to overcome and change the course of history. Do what you can while you can and future generations will be grateful. Millions of people in this country are thankful that the abolitionists and suffragists did not give into despair.

28. Would you rather be Innocent or Wise? (You can't have both.)
Edited on Sat Apr-14-07 03:56 PM by TahitiNut
Innocence must be surrendered long before Wisdom is achieved ... if ever. Innocence cannot be maintained in the face of knowledge and experience. Life's lessons are sill mostly initiated by making mistakes.
