Lincoln Chaffee on Maddow ...... he is one angry, bitter man
He has as much bile toward what is left of the repubican party as any one person I can think of.

He was on Palin and Wilson and South Carolina and Alabama and outrageous tactics and primary challenges from right wing losers .........

Hahaha .... you tell 'em, Linc.

the ones like him, who remained for a long time, have probably spun off into independents, and all that's left now is mouth-breathing racist bozos

Compared to some of the people who claim to be Democrats in this state, I might vote for him.

6. He was an oldtime New England liberal Repub.
I would say our governor in CT is a lot like that but there are not many left.
I wish Lincoln Chaffee the best, the man gets it that the party he was once part of has gone down the tubes and he left it.

a nice lady who hasn't got a clue is my strongest impression.

I think I'd greatly prefer Lincoln Chaffee, myself.

I still voted Dem against her but there are worse Repubs to live under.

7. The Left would do well to remember the lessons of Lincoln Chaffee
It's okay to primary a Joe Lieberman. You might be able to primary an Arlen Specter. Forget primarying a Max Baucus unless you're will to accept a Jim Webb as the primary opponent. Forget about primarying a Blanche Lincoln or a MAry LAndrieu unless you are will to accept a Ben Nelson in their place.

I'm pretty far to the left, but I recognize when the left in our party is willing to bite off its own nose to spite its face.

The public option is another example of this, and yes, much of the blame for that lies with Obama. He needed to be more proactive early on to insure the public option. The single payer option needed to be on the table so you could end up with the Republicans begging for a public option. IT's too late to cry over spilt milk and we need to start health care reform and get off this century old jag of talking about starting health care refomr.

16. The right primaried him. He won the primary
but expended valuable resources fending off the primary challenge. He faced a well funded opponent from the Democrats in the general and lost. HAd he not been primaried, he would have likely won having the necessary resources. HAd he lost the primary, his challenger would have gone down to horrible defeat in the general.

26. I do not agree that the Left is in any way equivalent to the Right
Just because the Right has successfully demonized the word Liberal for the last three decades does not mean there is one ounce of truth to their discourse. The country has been moving steadily Right for three decades now and it is going to take some hard pushing to get it anywhere near what was considered the Middle in the Seventies. I am sick and tired of these people that say they are middle of the road when thirty years ago they would have been considered Hard Right..We need to put up Primary challenges until we start to see some swing back to a rational society.

9. Bitter? Naw, not bitter -
Angry at what's happened to a party he once revered, as did his father - a great man.

But, I didn't get any kind of bitter vibe from him. More sadness, actually.

I like Linc, and I hope he runs again. I think he'd do well, RI loving the Chaffee family.

Imagine what Barry Goldwater would say about these clowns (nothing personal, Stinky) running around, representing themselves as "conservatives"!

He'd take out his gun and shoot them. That's what I think...............

I hope we have made full use of the information
he was privy to while he was in office.

I would take a Chaffee over a Lieberman, ANY DAY.

24. It's not the way he's wired. He just wasn't into being a senator. My firm was
working in his last campaign. There was just no oomph to it. He wasn't into it.

I like the guy, but his staying a Republican helped put Trent Lott into the leadership position.

23. When the Repub Party Became the Party of Rightwing Conserv Fundies You Knew....
... there was no longer a place for liberal or even moderate voices.

And now the Repubs who 'rode Rove's horse' to victory are now complaining that the Repub Party is inhabited by crazies? Sorry, but you knew they were crazy when you re-upped your Party Membership Card.

I have nothing against Chaffee, but he was slow to acknowledge the insanity of those who took over the Republican Party and he paid the price for remaining attached to it.

We all knew there would be a price to pay for following the coalition of crazies that Rove put together to wrench control of Congress and the White House.
