I HATE how AM Radio is ALL Right Wing!!! I can not find ONE Liberal AM Talk Show
I live in the Hartford area in Connecticut. Today I was off running errands all day and was in the mood to listen to some news. All, and I mean ALL,the AM radio shows I could get were right wing. Dennis Miller. Glen Beck. Local right wing radio shows, all bashing liberals and Obama. I barely got one station where Stephanie Miller's show was coming in, but it was faint and eventually just faded out after a while. Anyone else have this problem? I looked up Air America and tried some of the stations in my car,but none really come in that well. Just sucks that right wing hate radio all comes in perfect and crystal clear but liberal radio is faint and can not be found. Okay, end of rant!

1. Get The Stephanie Miller Podcast
Costs a little bit, but it's the funniest thing sing 1980s-era Howard Stern.

2. The only way I can get any liberal shows at all is to listen online.
All of the talk radio around here is either right wing or sports.

4. The Sam Greenfield Show AM and online.
Edited on Wed Sep-09-09 04:10 PM by no_hypocrisy
His show is broadcast to some parts of Connecticut on 1160 AM. If you wish, you can stream his show by this link http://www.wvnj.com and then clicking "listen live" in the left margin.

An independent and progressive radio program on WVNJ, broadcast throughout the greater NYC metropolitan region. On this show, Sam discusses a variety of topics that are important but not reviewed on major media outlets. Sam is a seasoned radio host as well as entertainer and political pundit.

Sam has had a prominent presence in New York Radio for more than a decade (WEVD, WWRL, and now WVNJ). He has also appeared on cable television (CNN, MSNBC, FOX, and CNBC). He has an avid interest in all things political, social, societal, economic, etc.

Sam has been posted numerous times on The Huffingtonpost as well.

Sam spends a great deal of time reading and doing research to prepare for his show. He uses humor to make his points with the listeners by way of wit and irony. And his insight into politics, current news, and history is very engaging.

The show is broadcast Monday through Friday, 7:00 to 9:00 a.m.

Recent guests have included Sen. George McGovern, Gov. Donald Siegelman, Bishop Shelby Spong, E.J. Dionne, Michael Wolff, Michael Tomasky, Bill Baird, Amy Goodman, Ted Sorensen, Eleanor Clift, Greg Palast, Ray McGovern, Gene Lyons, Marie Cocco, Noam Chomsky, and Helen Thomas.

Here are other links to articles about and by Sam.

8. How can you tell obsolete technology?
It's what right-wingers use to communicate with each other: AM radio and fax machines. Adopt the new technology (satellite radio and podcasts) and you'll find plenty of liberal material.

I have to say that I'm in favor of technical apartheid for conservatives: if they don't believe in evolution, no petroleum products for them; if they don't believe in evolution, no vaccines for them; if they don't want socialism, drop them from Medicare and Social Security and slam the post office door in their faces. But I'll let them keep AM radio, a technology right out of the 1920s.

9. Yes This Problem is Widespread for We The Commuters
Local right wing shows are still Bitching about Teds Funeral morning and evening. All I need is cbs news at the top of every hour but when that bell rings I hear a freeper on cbs stating that "his kid will be RAISED as a community organizer if it listens to the Presidents Speech"

I tried AAR but it is faint or full of static

10. Ain't life without the Fairness doctrine grand?
sure you could break up the media monopolies, but there's as good a chance as any that more rich conservative a-holes would buy up the pieces. We didn't give the megaphone to just ONE SIDE when the Fairness Doctrine was enforced. But I know, I know; Rush Limbaugh says that killing the Fairness Doctrine protected "free speech" (by making sure that the opposition can't be heard) so it was a GOOD thing!

11. We have AM 1090 in the Seattle area...
and I have to say that it is wonderful. But I completely understand your pain as I lived in Salt Lake City for many years. It was horrible! Knowing how malleable the human mind is, we really ought to fight more to get some liberal talk on our radios.

12. I can't find one Liberal news television station.
They all seem to be either conservative or moderate leaning more toward conservative. None are Liberal.

13. Same in Pittsburgh, PA
And area surrounding it. Only liberal talk is Chris Moore where the conservative KDKA allows him to have a Sunday evening show. Guess that's their bone to the African-American community as well since Chris is black.

Our other lone liberal Lynn Cullen had to go to the internet to have a voice.

Good thing I can listen online to liberal hosts.

I hope to get satellite radio in my next vehicle, but for now when in the car I listen to books on CD.

14. I got XM after traveling cross country and having no options except which RW extremist wacko
to turn off. I know exactly how you feel, it's an unabashed corporate RW propaganda campaign on AM.

XM has America Left, Channel 167, which has Stephanie Miller, Ed Shultz, Thom Hartmann, and Mike Malloy daily, among others.

16. I was just about to post about XM. It's has it's issues but it's by far and away
better than trying to listen to local stations.

And if you do manage to find a local progressive station, a lot of times it sounds like it's been bounced off the moon from a 2 watt transmitter.

One more thing; oddly enough, Randi is on XM 165 (Talk Radio which is mostly wingers) at the same time they air Thom on 167. Decisions decisions.

15. Sad Truth: Most progressive/liberal talk is found online.
The mainstream media is controlled by conservative businessmen who rather make money than serving the public.

It's difficult to transition completely to the internet, but it has it's own benefits.

(It's similar when you slowly transition from radio listening to internet music. I was able to find music (even hip-hop, rap, and rb) that are not broadcast on radio at all.)

18. This Subject is Interesting and says
A lot about democratic mentality. We are constantly bombarded with conservative view points but stay true to our party. In my case I'm steadily knocking down conservative rhetoric in my mind and now its automatic for me to disregard their voice as useless this happens subconsciously. Many days I have to turn channels because my inner self constantly seeks truth, new information or reason. :)
