13 Apr 2007 // Washington, DC - Today, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) asked Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald to reopen his investigation of Karl Rove's role in disclosing Valerie Plame Wilson's status as a covert CIA operative in light of recent revelations about missing White House email.

Press reports indicate that Mr. Rove uses a Republican National Committee (RNC) email account for 95% of his communications. In addition, the RNC's counsel has admitted that all of Mr. Rove's emails prior to 2005 have been destroyed. Moreover, the White House has admitted that - as CREW reported yesterday - five million emails are missing from the White House servers. All of this raises serious questions about whether Mr. Rove knowingly destroyed evidence relevant to the Special Counsel's inquiry and whether Mr. Fitzgerald received all relevant documents.

Melanie Sloan, CREW's executive director, said today, "It looks like Karl Rove may well have destroyed evidence that implicated him in the White House's orchestrated efforts to leak Valerie Plame Wilson's covert identity to the press in retaliation against her husband, former Ambassador Joseph Wilson." Sloan continued, "Special Counsel Fitzgerald should immediately reopen his investigation into whether Rove took part in the leak as well as whether he obstructed justice in the ensuing leak investigation."

CREW serves as legal counsel to Joe and Valerie Wilson in their civil suit against Karl Rove, Vice President Dick Cheney, I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby and Richard Armitage.

9. Nope. Not to be a downer, but no. Just because there are missing emails does not mean
those emails said anything of import. So there's no light yet. A bit of heat, maybe.

FIND one of the emails, or someone who received one or more and will swear as to their contents, and then you're in business.

13. How about a spark?
There were many emails that were deleted, and you are right, we need someone to step forward and give us the story... It will happen... The closer they get...

22. An investigator investigates he was given the right to search
Edited on Fri Apr-13-07 06:39 PM by lovuian
all computers in the whitehouse
which he confiscated Cheney's and others

Fitz is in a spot here
if he KNEW the RNC email line and it is a violation of the HAtch Act and he did not prosecute that crime

(He's a federal attorney he is suppose to prosecute crimes what he sees)

He is an investigator given carte blanche ...Fitz left the door open to cover his butt

HE BETTER COVER IT

cause its looking suspicious why did the Investigator investigate??? ...if he knew
He didn't get FIRED from the Justice Department others did was he part of the deal???
Was Libby really the sacrificed lamb just like Kyle Sampson is suppose to be
but Kyle brought some emails with him

its a dilemna for Fitzy

I hate to say it but Dean warned him but Fitz smart man he was left the door open
Fitz your going to have to go after ROVE whether you like it or not

We are not stupid we see what your actions did and ACTIONS speak louder than words

23. It may not be a dilemma. I read somewhere that WH workers had LAPTOPS
that they used for their RNC mail, and "switched between their desktops and laptops with ease" or words to that effect.

What's so hard about Rover's assistant trolling the hallways and telling everyone "Say, that pesky asshole is coming to look at the computers tomorrow--everyone leave the goddamned laptops at HOME, now. And DON'T bring them in until we give you the all-clear. Capisce?"

16. maybe because his bosses didn't give him the go ahead to
continue, have you thought of that? Or have you missed the story that the DOJ has been trying to thwart investigations?

Fitz has to get permission to continue to expend his office budget to investigate or for new funding to further investigate. The power of the purse is a great power and a huge impediment to investigation.

:hi:

3. I wonder how an untalented unsuccessful prosecutor
like Fitz will feel about finding out that the guys who were gunning for his job also deliberately lie and misled him, his office, his investigators, and covered up even more crimes?

I can't imagine that he would find that curious.

12. Everyone expected Fitzmas... and got Fizzlemas instead...
Everyone seems to be expecting some great savior or some great knight in shining armor to ride up on his galliant white steed and save us from this nightmare that is the B.F.E.E. (BushCo, et al)...

Folks, it's not gonna happen like that. This is one time when the townsfolk (american citizens) are going to have to take to the streets and run the snarling beasts (BushCo) out with their tails tucked between their legs. That time is NOW, my friends, and the sooner the better.

Got Revolution?

19. We can only *hope* he reopens the case... I'm about done holding on to hope..
just to be disappointed again. Someone, somewhere, has GOT to put a stop to these criminals.

I'll try to look up Fitzgerald's statement after the Libby verdict, because there was something I read in it that seemed a little cryptic to me. He seemed to be pointing to some pieces of his investigation, like it was something he wanted Congress to look into. Maybe he was gotten to somehow by these thugs so he didn't proceed any deeper, but tried to get some clues out in his statement. <<--- (This is pure speculation on my part, no tinfoil needed. I just wouldn't put anything past these thugs)

6. The dog that didn't bark???
I really think they need to FIND an incriminating email or two to make that shit fly, frankly.

"May well have" isn't proof. "Questions about if" isn't evidence. Someone needs to flip like a fucking Wallenda and tell Patrick that they saw an email, or received one, or something, that said something other than "Could you pick up my dry cleaning? Gotta work late for the Monkey."

17. heh--that'll put Fitzgerald on the spot
however, nothing will come of it. He has already indicated that Congress is the court of inquiry now for Rove. Something much more direct must happen to get Fitz involved in prosecuting Rove.

Be Patient. It may yet come to light.

20. There is nothing to re-open, Fitz has been observing and listening....
... and if evidence of wrongdoing goes public or comes his way, he can indict.

There is no closing of the case....

21. The Bush Bunch have made a fine art
of avoiding publicity for wrongdoing, starting with Prescott. They have money, they have ties, they have the power of the corporate old boy system, and if they decide to protect Rove, it will take some guts for this congress to investigate.
