Lawyer: Rove didn't mean to delete email
By LAURIE KELLMAN, Associated Press Writer
32 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - Karl Rove's lawyer on Friday dismissed the notion that President Bush's chief political adviser intentionally deleted his own e-mails from a Republican-sponsored server, saying Rove believed the communications were being preserved in accordance with the law.

....................

Any e-mails Rove deleted were the type of routine deletions people make to keep their inboxes orderly, Luskin said. He said Rove had no idea the e-mails were being deleted from the server, a central computer that managed the e-mail.

..............

Perino said she could not rule out that millions of White House e-mails could have been lost when staffers' accounts were converted over to Microsoft Outlook from Lotus Notes. It was a rolling process that took place in the first couple of years of the administration, she said.

"I wouldn't rule out that there were a potential 5 million e-mails lost," she said. "There was no intent to have lost them."

2. "There was no intent to have lost them."
Right. Absolutely correct. The intent was to cover up the evidence of criminal wrongdoing.

17. I'm a lawyer...
...and I thought the same thing, too. Deleted emails....just an accident, a mistake....and there is a lawyer talking about this immediately? Ummmmm....yeah......

Does not wash with me. I know what I think about why someone would ask me to get between them and the issue on ANYTHING that is "accidentially" missing or lost. Ummmm....yeah......

This does NOT pass the smell test...even maybe.

as you usually have to delete something twice to get rid of it, perfectly understandable, move along, nothing to see here folks.

22. Everything Karl Rove does is intentional and there is nothing, nothing tidy or clean about anything
he does....

Everything this man smells and this has got perhaps the largest stench of all....destruction of evidence and obstruction of justice....to cover up crimes that could make Watergate look like kid's stuff.

27. They realize this is very damaging...
...and are trying to get out in front of it by putting out his story of it being unintentional -- he's just being tidy and assuming there are backups... har har har.

But the fact they felt they had to respond, make no mistake, is a good thing. And what it means is, we've struck a sore spot. Time to press harder.

My suggestion would be to confiscate all relevant hardware, including personal laptops of participating parties, ASAP. Then have it analyzed / recovered by a neutral party. But IANAL so don't know if that is in the cards.
