I have been trying to get my head around this crazy opposition to the president speaking to school kids in a national address. I just didn't see how what amounts to a simple pep talk could be seen as some kind of nefarious plot to indoctrinate kids into socialism but I think I may have it figured out.
Imagine for a moment that you are one of these "concerned" parents, you've carefully blocked access to the television and internet and warned your children that the alien in the white house is an evil man who has only our destruction as his goal. You've drilled them in the fact that the scary man in Washington tells only lies and that he would have aborted every one of them if he had any say in the matter. Now here he is trying to circumvent the carefully constructed filter between them and the world.
No one really thinks for a minute that the president is going to come on TV and suggest that Mao's little red book be added to the curriculum. Even the most alarmist, tinfoil hat wearing parent knows for a fact that The President is not going to indoctrinate anyone with a single address. The real threat they see is that President Obama may come on the TV and look like what he is, a concerned parent who wants children to study hard, avoid peer pressure, and tell them that the key to a prosperous future must start with a good education.
In short If you have indoctrinated your children to fear the scary black man and they see for themselves that he is not the devil himself but a dad like any other then your indoctrination may take a hit, why they may actually start to question other little fabrications you may have came up with. Before you know it they might actually think for themselves and lord knows that must be avoided at all costs.
