1. Seems to be blowing up faster than anticipated
The latest pic on NOAA shows the storm with a small but definite eye.

6. The problem is that there is no consensus on where
Erika is heading. Just start watching for now - the five day tracking suggests that she won't reach hurricane strength.

It's too early to predict but unless something drastic happens
I don't see how this makes East Coast Florida.

12. LOL Say what?
It may mash up before there - so I've heard. We'll see - depends on whether Erika continues to slow down.

16. Notice that Erika has been moving West all day
Well moving is a stretch at 1mph.

Erika will now pass either South of PR or go right through. Yesterday they said Erika would pass north of PR.

19. Well she sure has us interested
She's moving West again and not going through PR. The good news is that she's weakened but the kind of rain associated with Erika will mash up Haiti again and while we need some serious rain, something tells me that if Erika has a clear Mona passage, she will strengthen and cause trouble somewhere up the line.

Then the next time I looked she was moseying around. Window shopping or something.

21. Well if you look at her history graphic
it is very different from the tracking graphics. She has mostly been veering West rather than WNW as predicted and apparently the experts continue to insist that she will head WNW. I don't get it but then I am no expert.

24. Many years ago (1968 - 69) I flew in a weather recon squadron out
of Guam, using the WC 121 Constellation. We would do penetrations of the storm at midnight, stand off for a distance and do another one at 6 am. One wanna be tropical storm/typhoon did that. We went in at midnight, and watched on our radar as it just went slowly away. Gone at 6.

DR and Haiti. It sure has weakened but we're still watching the remnants.

There are no tropical cyclones at this time.
-----------------

You did note that my anecdote was from the late 1960's. It was put there to show that sometimes s TD or TS can just fizzle. The one a couple of weeks ago that went up the west coast of Fla went from from tropical storm to tropical depression to a mere disturbance and then went away somewhere in Georgia.

27. There are no tropical cyclones but as Steve Lyons just said there
is serious rain in PR as I type, and they can expect another six hours which will lead to flooding.

----
Re your anecdote - there are other stories of Tropical storms and depressions that appeared to fizzle and found open water later and reorganized.
As we approach mid-September - keep one eye on all systems or their remnants.

29. We need the rain big time
Edited on Sat Sep-05-09 08:07 AM by malaise
Looks like only water and having just checked out the remnants, this may be a bigger problem for DR and Haiti. The Bahamas and Florida need to keep an eye on the remnants.

Thanks KharmaTrain :hi:

Remember there's another one off the African coast and I read on BBC this morning that there is severe flooding in West Africa.
