Conyers: No Public Option, No Passage
By Matthew DeLong 9/1/09 12:02 PM

The Michigan Messenger’s Todd Heywood reports some strong statements from Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich.) in support of a government-run health insurance plan to compete with private insurers.

“If we don’t have a strong public option, the bill will never get out of the House,” Conyers said during a Monday night town hall meeting on hate crimes legislation, which Conyers sponsored.

Conyers comments echo the sentiments of Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.), who suggested last month that abandoning a public option could cost up to 100 Democratic votes in the House.

8. Yeah, those strongly worded statements just eviscerate, don't they?
Cuts right through to the problem and has worked so well for Conyers in the past. What's that story about crying wolf? Conyers needs to be reminded of that.

11. I remember when the battle cry was for single payer. Now it is for public option, or nothing.
I'm sure I can figure out which of those two we are going to end up with.

14. Well, it's doomed now.
If Conyers is blustering his feathers then he also has the excuse "Why we couldn't do it" written in full by now.
