American Family Radio Launches New College Football Show

Former ESPN college football analyst and commentator Mike Gottfried has a new show, “College Football This Week,” which airs Mondays at 6:05 p.m. central across the American Family Radio network. Gottfried joins AFA President Tim Wildmon in discussing college football with a distinctively Christian perspective.

Wildmon says, “We are thrilled to have someone of Mike Gottfried’s caliber host a weekly college football show on American Family Radio. In addition to being recognized as an expert on college football, Mike is also a strong Christian, so some of our focus will be on the influence of faith in sports.” Wildmon, who co-hosts the 55 minute show with Gottfried, adds, “We will also talk to some of the best coaches and players in the game today. There is nothing like the passion and pageantry of college football in America and we will talk about it each Monday evening on AFR.”

Gottfried says the program will feature the latest on college football teams, coaches and players. “The stories of all the people’s lives and what they’ve gone through, mistakes they made, are all a part of it - trying to get the message out there of salvation. So, I think it’s going to be interesting to find out even about the past and future of a lot of the sports celebrities in our country.”

Gottfried was an NCAA Division I football coach at Murray State, Cincinnati, Kansas and Pittsburgh from 1978 to 1989. He was also on the broadcast staff of ESPN from 1990 To 2004 as a college football analyst and color commentator.

In 2000, he founded Team Focus (http://www.teamfocusonline.org), a cost free comprehensive community outreach program aimed at young men without fathers. There is also a group for girls, called G.I.R.L.S. Network. All can be found on the Team Focus web site.

The AFR Network can be heard around the country through their nearly 200 stations and affiliates. For a listing of stations, you can go to their website, http://www.afr.net. “College Football This Week” can also be heard live on the web each week through the same web site. The show runs each Monday through January 11, 2009.

1. At last!
You often hear sportspeople thanking God for their victories, but now you'll get to hear the experts explaining which teams God favours, and why.

2. I hate that posturing
Like when guys point to the sky when they get a hit, or a touchdown or whatever. Nobody ever thanks god because they grounded into a double play or threw an interception!

3. Yes, as in "They won by the grace of Gawd"...
Because we know that if you lose, or are injured, or even die, it's because you must've been in the Gatorade line when God was handing out grace. My pet peeve.

5. My mind raced - no, streaked - there
Tim Tebow is undeniably a very good college football player and is about as interesting as a 25 pound bag of fertilizer. I don't see this program lasting very long, say more than five minutes. 60 minutes a week throughout the season? Snoresville.
