Teh Irony, It Hurtz...
Checking the news on the interwebs this morning, I came across this little gem: http://www.independentcollegian.com/news/college-republicans-to-identify-liberal-professors-1.1849825">College Republicans to identify liberal professors. Apparently, UT College Republicans feel that their grades were affected more by their political affiliation than, say, their crappy work and (apparent) whining.

I have to say, this is ironic on way too many levels. And, somehow, irony is always lost on Republicans.

First, in the context of the health care "debate," Republicans are the ones accusing Obama of being a fascist-socialest-Hitler-meanie. Yet, wasn't it Hitler and the Nazis (or Stalin and the Communists) who made lists targeting people with different views?

Second, and more importantly, this goes completely against all the stated "ideals" of the Republican Party. I mean, after all, aren't they the people always preaching "personal responsibility" and "independence?" Shouldn't they be overcoming whatever situation life presents without complaining?

Instead, in typical Republican fashion, they commence the victim act. They're never to blame. The "bad" things in their life are always someone else's fault. It couldn't be possible that they earned a lower grade. No, they deserve an A+++, but the evil liberal professors consipired against them. It couldn't be that they used made-up "facts" and failed to adequately defend an argument or idea. Oh no, they were TARGETED.

I'm sick of this BS. If they want to preach personal responsiblity, let them be responsible for their situation. If they want to call politicians and political parties names, they should have their facts about who did what when correct. But, people accept this stupid Republican behavior across the country. The media does the mental gymnastics that allow the perpetrator to cry "victim!" Why would the UT College Republicans expect any different??

1. Nice post, Professor Commie
Republicans are so self-sufficiently perfect that any shortcoming wrongly attributed to them must in fact originate elsewhere. Other, lesser people--being non-Republican and therefore imperfect--have only themselves to blame for their many failures.

See?

2. Interesting part:
“At our weekly meeting, something we like to do is take time out for students to tell stories of any bias they have had in classes. What we’re doing is representing students who have had that experience. We’re trying to expose professors who have liberal bias and go against everything UT stands for,” Rubin said. “How is saying ‘President Bush is the dumbest president this country has ever had and should be hanged’ improving the human condition?”

The students who submitted and reported incidents such as these will remain anonymous, Rubin said.

“We had a student who said, in an ancient Greece class, Professor William O’Neal claimed that America did not liberate Europe in World War II. However; it was freed by Charles De Gaulle and the free French, not U.S. Soldiers,” Rubin said.

O’Neal, chair and professor of history at UT denied ever making the comment.
=================================================================================================================================
Sounds like they will follow their elders and just make up shit out of whole cloth.
Methinks Mr.Rubin wants some payback for some bad grades.

I once saw a website where 'conservative' students would bitch about grades and bias. Often they would submit work that they felt they had been screwed on. It was god-awful for the most part and in most cases Ds and Fs were generous.

4. This is the part that got me:
"We’re trying to expose professors who have liberal bias and go against everything UT stands for"

More "us vs them" and "real Americans vs America-haters." It's absurd.

8. I can't wait to see how far they get without taxes or
regulation. I just hope they put a fence up! Not that we'll be trying to get in, but it'll keep them from getting out...
