'We hate the United States': Secessionists rally in Texas (Get the Fuck out then!)
http://rawstory.com/blog/2009/08/secessionists-rally-texas/

or some folks in Texas, the prospect of a universal health care scheme isn't just cause for protest and debate -- it's reason enough to secede from the United States altogether.

Some 200 people rallied at the State Capitol in Austin on Saturday, a small but vocal crowd that set itself in opposition to pro-health care reform protesters.

Larry Kilgore, a Christian activist that the Texas Observer says has advocated execution for homosexuals, "drew some murmurs of disapproval" when he told the crowd: “I hate that flag up there. ... I hate the United States government. … They’re an evil, corrupt government. They need to go. Sovereignty is not good enough. Secession is what we need!”

Well Texas, there's the door, don't let it hit you on the way out.

After you secede, perhaps you could rename your new country to something that better describes the place--the Republic of WhiteTrashistan.

7. There are plenty of Democratic Texans that would take

umbrage at that remark.

Texas, like the rest of the USA, has its own idiots to deal with.

43. I hear you
You can't trash a whole state just because some of the more vocal idiots. California, where I live, has plenty of jerks that would join right in on that crap. The secessionist idiots just say things like that because they can. They actually have the freedom to say their hateful idiocies without fear of being "disappeared". That is something that will undoubtedly be unable to penetrate their thick heads.

As others have said, nothing is stopping them from heading out to find greener pastures. As much as some stupid politicians want to feed the trolls to stay in office, they know where their bread is buttered, they would never seriously bring up the idea of secession.

50. Because we ignore them...
200 nutty wingnuts is not something worthy of even acknowledging.

Texas is a big state, only behind California for population and size of economy... Is the largest exporting state in the nation and has the highest number of Fortune 500 company headquarters in the United States.

As for the folks saying good riddance...

That's all fine rhetoric, but along with Texas would go 1/3 of the nations natural gas supply, and the #1 producer of oil and gas, refined products and chemicals in the nation as well as over 5% of the worlds refining capacity..

And the nations largest wind farms and a quite large high tech industry.. Texas is the birthplace of the integrated circuit, ranks second in semiconductor manufacturing and produces 11% of the worlds silicon.

The nation would suffer significantly if Texas was lost.

Now if we could just manage to elect a decent governor this time...

He isn't just a "Christian activist", he's running for governor...again. He ran/failed in 2006 and in 2008, he ran/failed for Senator against Cornyn. He's also connected to Operation Rescue.

Here's the funny part. In the city where he was raised, the county mental hospital is named Kilgore.

Trust me, kids. Larry is an attention monger of the highest order. He no more represents the will of the people of Texas than does a pile of cow dung.

and though we might like to joke and say "don't let the door hit you on the way out," we must remember and never forget that over 600,000 people died in a war over the continued union of this country, 360,000 of which gave their lives fighting to preserve that very Union. To ever let these disgusting treacherous fuckers ever get their way would be a disgrace and inestimable dishonor to all those, black and white, who perished on the fields of the likes of Gettysburg and Antietam;at the siege of Fort Wagner and the Battle of the Crater. An inestimable dishonor to the 16th President of the United States who was felled by an assassin's bullet. This rabble is the extreme of the extreme. They will never have "their" way. Never.

52. I guess you are referring to the Civil War. I think the deaths of the Union soldiers were
especially unnecessary.

Why should the average Joe in MN, ME, OH, IL,etc., give a happy rat's ass whether or not the states that made up the Confederacy stayed in the United States? Anyway, toward the end of the war many of the Union soldiers were immigrants, mostly from Ireland.

30. Sure, we'll give them Loving County
Population: 67
Claim to fame: The least populous county in the US

Oh course, the last takeover attempt didn't go so well:

"In February 2006, Mentone became the focus of a New York Times article detailing an alleged attempt by libertarians Lawrence Pendarvis, Bobby Emory and Don Duncan to "take over" the town and Loving County. According to the article, Pendarvis and his associates, part of the Free Town Project, planned to buy parcels of land in the county, then move in enough of their supporters to outvote earlier residents and take control of local government.
-----
"Although Pendarvis, Emory and Duncan claimed to have legally bought 126 acres (0.51 km2) in Loving county in 2005, and registered to vote accordingly, the county sheriff, Billy Burt Hopper, determined that this land had been sold to a different buyer. Misdemeanor charges were filed against the three men, who had left the state by this time. Pendarvis claimed to have a cancelled check to prove his purchase of the land in question, but no deed was ever produced, and the original landowners denied having sold land to Pendarvis or his associates. The three were subsequently featured on a "wanted" poster issued by Sheriff Hopper and the local Texas Rangers (displayed at Hopper's office), and threatened with arrest should they return to Loving County."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loving_County,_Texas

Seriously, I'm a fifth-generation native Texan, and batshit crazy secessionists pop up every couple of years here. They make a few headlines, then even the wingnuts figure out the depth of their derangement.

A new surreality show.

Assorted tax protesters, creationists, free marketeers, and global warming deniers live and cooperate (or don't) on a tropical island that projections say will be swamped by rising seas.

Or do they just go all "Lord of the Flies" on each other long before anything else has a chance?
