Coach Airs Parental Annoyances
Coach Airs Parental Annoyances

This list is from a gymnastics coach but many of these pet peeves cross over to a variety of other sports and situations.

Comment: I hope my list isn't too critical. I'm a gymnastics coach and teach recreational gymnastics and competitive. I've taught kids ranging from walking, to high school tumbling. It's safe to say I have a few pet peeves as far as girls' gymnastics is concerned.

1. Probably my biggest: parents that want it more than the girl.

2. Parents who see their child not having fun, and not wanting to do the sport and then make their daughter continue anyway.

3. Parents who want it to be all work, no play and drive their kid too hard too fast.

4. The polar opposite: a parent that wants all play and no work.

5. When a girl goes for a water break and her parents feed her sugary, high-fat candy, pop or food in the middle of class.

6. The parent that doesn't understand the game at the end of class isn't just time wasted on fun, it's also cardio.

1. a parents biggest complaint
the price !!!

$400 bucks for an hour a week for 3 months?
and then making parents buy tickets to the big show at the end(another $25).
I always feel like I'm being played.

I know its good for the kid but your bleeding me dry

2. Gymnastics is the last sport I would push my daughter into
If she really wanted to do it, and understood the commitment and hard work required, I would allow it, but I would certainly never encourage her to do it either.

Of course, I don't have a daughter, so go figure.

3. But then where would all the future Playboy and Hustler posers come from?!
after all, SOMEBODY'S got to do all those "poses"...

oh- wait - I forgot - NOW these "women" are all doing those "Every Woman Should Be An Expert Stripper Pole Dancer" "exercise" promos...I especially like all the "cardio" benefit they get from throwing their butts out and then rubbing their backsides with their hands - must do WONDERS for their - hands!
