Too much Cappuccino Perino flew into hyper spin today in her attempt to explain the “dog ate my homework” defense of the Justice Department’s claim that - gosh darn it – they just don’t have all the documents the Senate Judiciary Committee wants in its Attorney-Gate investigation. Looks like Bush Crime Family syndicate members were using their multiple, personal email accounts and double-deletes to (perhaps) override any archiving and protection of damaging messages as mandated by the Hatch Act. Surprise surprise, Karl Rove’s ugly name has turned up yet again.

Instead of 18 minutes, the Bush Crime Family appears to have “disappeared” 18 days worth of communications. So again, if you’ve done nothing wrong, you’ve got nothing to hide, right?

Of course if the Justice Department wanted to read your email I’m sure they could track down every tiny pixil, from the ugly break-up with your girlfriend to the questions you sent to erectile-dysfunction.com or natural-breast-enhancement.net no matter how carefully you deleted them.. Nice eh? These peeping tom criminals reserve all the privacy for themselves while shredding the constitutional rights of everyone else.

Neutrino Perino admitted that “we screwed up” in the lack of email archiving, but added that everyone in the administration was being “forthcoming and honest” in their recollection of so many pertinent documents. Well, that’s settled then.

Meanwhile, outside of Washington – far far outside – the Bush/Cheney adventure in Iraq took another bloody, backward turn as so-called insurgents were able to manage some spectacular explosions, both inside the Iraqi Parliament and over a historic bridge spanning the Tigris river. At least 10 people have died and dozens more are wounded. What did Raisin Brain say to the American Legion on Tuesday? That there is progress and the troops are “completing the mission?”

Were Goodling to receive some form of immunity, she could be legally compelled to testify or risk facing charges of contempt of Congress.
No decision to seek immunity for Goodling has yet been made. But the question of immunity may be inevitable, because of what some observers see as an endgame for Gonzales, who is scheduled to deliver crucial testimony on his role in the firings next Tuesday before the Senate Judiciary Committee. Democrats have stressed that even if Gonzales resigns, their investigation into the dismissal of the U.S. attorneys will continue. In that event, the investigation's focus would likely shift to the role of the White House in the firings, and Goodling's contacts with the office of former White House counsel Harriet Miers and of top political advisor Karl Rove might be crucially important.
In fact, Goodling's testimony could prove more important than ever, given today's White House acknowledgement that numerous e-mails to and from key White House staff may have been lost or deleted in a violation of internal rules. Today, I saw a thread that stated Pete Domenici is considering early retirement in light of his involvement with the US Attorney scandal. If that is in fact true, and if NM law states that the Governor appoints senatorial replacements (I don't know if this is so), then maybe the LIEberman problem will be lessened.
