Police chief: Officer was wrong to use stun gun
August 28, 2009 06:19 EDT

CINCINNATI (AP) -- The police chief has told Cincinnati community leaders that an officer was wrong to use a stun gun on a city councilman's daughter because she posed no threat.

Chief Thomas Streicher said at a meeting of NAACP members and Baptist ministers Thursday that 26-year-old Celeste Thomas was on her knees with her hands up, asking "What did I do?" when she was zapped with the Taser gun early Sunday. Thomas is black.

Streicher says an internal review of the traffic stop should be finished soon but six supervisors have already found excessive force was used. The chief has taken away the officer's police powers.

Cincinnati NAACP President Christopher Smitherman said Streicher deserved credit for attending the meeting, a comment that drew applause.

1. What did she do? A traffic violation? On her knees with her hands
in the air for a traffic violation? This is disturbing.

5. It's the blue suit, isn't it?!
Damn the daughters of blue suit wearing city councilmen - they all deserve tasering!!! :sarcasm:

Jebus, did the cop really think he'd get away with this one? He definitely deserves some justice of his own.

3. Had she not been a city councilman's daughter...
...no apology would have been forthcoming.

4. You simply don't understand the danger she posed to the officer!
I mean, haven't you ever seen a superhero movie? Everyone is a potential criminal, and some of them have super powers! The officer had to taser her or she might have performed a double-kneeling somersault and ripped his head CLEAN OFF!
