I just lost it about "moving too quickly" on health care
One of my coworkers said that we're doing this too quickly. I kind of snapped and screamed "We've been waiting 60 God damned years! How much longer do you want?"

I'm looking forward to the upcoming session, though, to be honest. I think some arms are being twisted right now and we'll see the result of that when Congress reconvenes. I just hope we don't have to wait 145 days for a replacement for EMK.

1. Good for you. It's time to start beating back those anti-health care
talking points that have been seeded by the insurance companies and spread through their mouthpieces in the media.

2. The bill doesn't take affect until 2013.
You should be screaming on why it will take that long to implement.

9. Provides enough time to obliterate the good & reinforce the pro for-profit factors
There'll likely be another big turn of events re the phony "war OF terror" before that time anyway.

14. Its the health insurers equivalent to the year long wait on credit card reform
It will create the same anything for an extra buck credit card customers have been suffering since the weak "reforms" became law.

4. Yes, we should have waited like we did with the USA PATRIOT Act
Funny how that bit of legislative legerdemain fairly flew through Congress on such short notice within a month or two of September 11. Almost like someone had it written beforehand for just such an occasion.

19. That's right, cancer doesn't wait around any more than al-Qaeda does. Course, cancer better wait
until 2013, but anyway you get the point.

6. Moving slowly is like crossing a chasm in 2 steps
Here's a great link with Canadians absolutely slaying the rightist media propaganda here:

13. " ,,,like crossing a chasm in 2 steps." What an excellent analogy!
Someone said, if Canadian health care is so bad, why aren't RWers demanding a fence to be built on that border to stop the millions of them crossing the border for health care here?

8. You're entirely justified... snapping like that is reasonable,
considering how these profiteers are taking advatage of suffering and misery.

10. I have a friend
who, in recent years, has become more conservative. He said that he favors reform, but is concerned that Obama wants "to go too fast." Clearly, this is a talking point among not only republicans, but moderate/conservative democrats, as well.

My response was quite simple: if a family member has an urgent medical need, would he prefer immediate care, or would he be concerned that immediate care runs the risk of "moving too fast"? It's a small step from that, to pointing out that health care in the US is in need of urgent care -- now -- because it's human beings who are being denied the care they need now.

11. Interesting question in my local paper to the people. Should we
wait until the economy is better before tackling health reform. A pleasant surprise - 90% of the letters from the public said no way - statements such as - health care is one of the major problems of the economy - and we need to do it NOW - etc.. There was only one letter against it, some guy complaining about the national debt.

16. Sixty years isn't all that long if you're:
  • A tortoise
  • A tree
  • A celestial body
  • A chunk of coal
  • Nicolas Flamel
  • A time capsule
  • John Hancock (the superhero, not the patriot)
  • The Fifth Element

  • What's the rush?

17. "Too Fast" is the new talking point
Some of my moderate conservative friends tell me this. I think they think it makes them stand apart from the crazies.

I wonder when it's ever a good time for doing the right thing?

Free the slaves?
Votes for women?
End Segregation?

It's never a good time to upset the status quo.

18. Yep. The new wingnut battle cry is "Why the rush?"
They think it makes them sound ever so much more reasonable than their other arguments do. Some of them tried to float this at Rep. Marcia Fudge's district forum. "Hey, I'm all for reforming health care, but WHY THE RUSH?? I've learned from personal experience that doing something in too much haste usually turns out badly!"

Yeah--60 years plus, and they would have everyone believe we are "rushing" impetuously to do this. :grr:

20. If we have to work on this for weeks or even months, it will be too late and we should just forget
about it.
