Oh, why must you lie Peggy Noonan
On Morning Joe, couple minutes ago, Peggy Noonan went with the "this is a center right country" blast....Many conservatives still cling to that pipe dream...

Does this look like a center right country??...

21. No, but the center-left did
Barack Obama came across as a centerist to many people during the election. The Repukes were unsuccessful at demonizing him, first with the Rev. Wright controversy, then with the "Joe the Plumber" charges of socialism.

If you live in an urban area, and pretty much have always done so, you tend to think that the whole country is like the people around you. Folks out in the sticks would like to think that, too, but they have TV to tell them that it just isn't that way in the big cities. I've lived in both places, and in between, and this is a center-right country for the most part.

The key to who wins and who loses elections is where that center goes when it comes time to vote. It has no deep principles, it just goes where it feels the most comfortable. Barack Obama made it more comfortable than John McCain did.

25. your opinion - but my opinion is that the center elected obama
center right and center left.

That and the horrible campaign mccain led. With a stronger campaign, a logical stand on issues, and someone other than palin, the election would have been much closer.

17. If this country is center right, there is no way Obama would have
been elected. If people are true to themselves GWB ruled
as center right to conservative. The fact that he did something
on Prescription Drugs--This was center right. Give more to Business
than to the people but at leasr do something for the people. Leave
no child behind is Center Right. He stuck to the Culutural
Positions, Abortion Guns Gays for more Conservatives.

There are light years between Center in this country and Center
Right. The Conservatives are more willing to organize people
and fight for their side. The Conservatives are a small minority
who can and do organize well.

The people rejected the GOP because they were center-right.

Tom DeLay vividly describes how he and GWB made this a Center
right Government. They also believe if people say this is
a center right country, people will come to believe this.

24. it is all in the definition - there are no hard fast rules - so
to say that there "are light years between Center . . . and Center Right" is simmply your position.

I think if you look at the views and values - most of the citizens fall center right - in terms of social and fiscal issues.

just my opinion.

And it has nothing to do with right-wing whacko delay and his views of center-right.

Obama played to the center - still does. The fact that he is nearly universally considered a "lefty" just further demonstrates the center-right of the populace.

26. I agree....NO. WAY. would the American people have overwelmingly
elected an African American candiate if this country were center right...

See, that's the problem with conservatives, they look at Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Mississippi, etc. & think THAT represents the views of most Americans.....

Conservatives always stick up their noses at California & New York, but they fail to see that almost 20% of the population lives in those 2 states....20%

28. that map even proves the country is center right
what states are competitive - all conservative
Montana
North Dakota
Nebraska
Kansas
Arizona
South Carolina
Texas
Mississippi

Look at which are leaning Democratic
Nevada
Colorado
Oklahoma
South Dakota
Tennessee
Louisiana
Georgia
Florida

Again - all leaning more right than left

So . . . a shift in Dem voting to the right. A move in the populace toward the right.

3. Joe and Peggy on what Obama's doing wrong, while watching TK's casket
Unbelievable. Peggy also suggested we bash Obama from the left so the centrists look at him and think, oh, I guess he's not so left after all.

Then Joe went on about what a terrible presidential candidate Ted Kennedy was. Even as his casket is being carried across the screen.

10. If you tell the lie enough, people will begin to believe it is true
This is how they do all their framing.

Lie, lie some more and continue the lie until enough people have bought into the bullshit.

Didn't the Elections of 2008 refute this meme somewhat?

Center left would be more accurate in my view.

Only place America could be considered Center Right is in Corporate Media, formally termed "MSM", which seems to lean right-right-right?

13. When people are asked individual questions about what issues they support
overwhelmingly they answer on the progressive side. It's just when they talk about the wedge issues that some might think we lean right. All other issues most side with the left.

14. Many people describe themselves as conservatives but if you...
...quiz them on the issues-- without labels-- they lean further to the left than they realize.
Not unlike the blind 'who's your candidate' quizzes during the last campaign where a lot of people were surprised to find they most sided with Kucinich.

16. Compared to the rest of the world, we probably are center right.
Consider that we are the hardest working country in the western world. Outside of Washington, D.C., name a part of the country that shuts down for a few weeks. We worry more about profits than families. We worry more about salary than our mental health.

All of western Europe is far more worker oriented than us. We are dominated by corporations.

22. Center Right VS Center Left doesn't matter. What matters is that the majority of people are "Center"
so they can really go either way based on the issues presented to them.

I think economically the majority of the country is probably "center right" while on social issues the country is most definitely "center left"
