A foreign rockstar from a country with deeply rooted social and human rights issues....
... let's say, Pakistan, comes to the United States to perform in front of a huge crowd. And them condemns the treatment of women, gays and minorities in the United States.

Your reaction?

21. Do you hate all sex-industry workers
or just the females?

If you choose to vilify every celebrity that has used their sexual allure to advance their careers, you must watch TV-Land alot.

"Mayberry RFD" reruns....

22. no, just those who sell sex to make millions then criticize those who sell sex for mere survival.
as well as hypocrites who pretend there's no connection between the rich sellers of sex & the poor ones.

23. Madonna has criticized another worker in the sex industry?
Do you have a citation for that?

As to your "hypocrites" comment, we can assume that Hannah Bell would approve of Madonna if she'd stopped charging for her performances once she had achieved financial security? It's her success that bothers you?

You don't expect us to believe that, do you? Or are you saying that all sex-workers are vile if they profit above acquiring the necessities of life? Tassel-Twirling Tina should quit accepting dollars thrust into her bodice once she's been tipped enough to buy Similac for her crack-baby?

You're making this all up on the fly, aren't you? Perhaps Hannah's real issue is no-one's offering money to see *her* tits.....

34. I called you on your criticism
of Madonna for selling sex. I countered that almost all "visual" celebrities do.

You responded that she sold "sex to make millions then criticize(d) those who sell sex for mere survival." What does that mean? It was unclear whether you fault her for becoming wealthy by marketing her attractiveness or you feel she has demeaned other workers in the industry of supplying sexual stimulation. I only remember a few quotes from her regarding sex-industry workers, and they were all supportive.

I asked for a citation where she had spoken ill of any sex workers. You had no answer.

Who's bullshitting?

In response to your next assertion that some (unidentified) hypocrites fail to acknowledge some amorphous "connection" between successful purveyors of sex and those who fail to become rich. Actually, I have no idea what point you were trying to make. I did try to paraphrase and parrot your statement back in order to receive a clarification, but you merely tantrum-ed about straw and the decline of the definition of "democrat". Perhaps you're attempting to be subtle, but you're merely gibbering.

You haven't supported one of your statements. Every query I've made has been ignored or misdirected.

Who's bullshitting?

You end by increasing the invective of your personal insults. That sounds like bullshit to me. That sounds like someone venting their spleen, then failing to coherently explain their rancor. In short, that's bullshit.

9. Assuming I get a one on one chat with him...
I'd thank him for trying to make a positive impact on universal society. I'd also point out to him that, while we still quite a bit of progress to make, we here in the USA do have quite an impressive history when it comes to universal rights. We do have progress to make, but we are still moving forward.

16. I'd tell him to fuck off.
Other nations hate us for our meddling, and for good reason. I won't put up with the same shit from them.

I happen to support a lot of what Bono supports, but when he marched into our White House saying he was going to "open our purse strings" and whined that we weren't doing enough, I would have gladly told him "go fuck yourself" to his face.

Want my help? Make your case and ask politely. If you throw condescending lectures and guilt trips my way - no matter how just your cause - then make sure to have sex with yourself on the way out the door.

I posted in outrage and didn't note the time of your OP. Clearly, you posted before the offensive thread was locked. I assume this thread was intended to re-address the issue civilly and without the ugly racism displayed in that other thread.

I have nothing but respect for a socially-conscious artist expressing laudable human-rights values.

20. That happens all the time, frankly.
And it should, because the job of artists is to express themselves and that is that. Those who wish to express their opposition to prejudice and bigotry are the best of all. I'd personally be very happy whit any artist from anywhere that spoke out against the oppression of GLBT rights in the US, thrilled. It is the best when American artists do so directly to people's faces ala Brad Pitt. But I'd welcome it from anyone, anyplace, anytime.
Such an artist is an individual, not a government representative. Artists are international. Sorry if it bugs you.
And those who wish to dismiss Madonna are misinformed, as she has been heavily political for most of her career. She a bit of an activist hero, a groundbreaking advocate, a communicator of lifesaving information. If you don't like it, skip her shows.
I suppose you think the Dixie Chicks should have 'shut up and sang' at that concert in London? They sure did not have Madonna's long track record as a speaker of her mind, a public voice. People coming to see Madonna should expect to hear political controversy, she always delivers that, same as U2 only Bono is tarted up like a boy tart, Mo like a girl tart. But a tart is a tart, m'dear. Eye candy is eye candy. And there is nothing wrong with that at all.
The famous old movie star Mae West was the Madonna of her day. She is thought of as being just her tarted up image, but the woman was a trail blazing writer, a free speech hero, arrested multiple times for performance, for the title of her show, for the way she walked. She was political as all get out, and she had impact on the culture beyond reason. She also wrote every word she ever spoke, save for those WC Fields tossed in. But she was a sexy woman selling her sexuality, so people dismissed her then and now, out of ignorance.
