I need to climb up into my attic today and find a letter from 1968....
It was from Senator Edward Kennedy.

I wrote my message to him on a bumpy bus ride to a rally in Indianapolis for his brother Bobby. It was an exciting time for me, my first active participation in politics.

Ted was a friend of Robert Cashman, my high school music/band teacher. I attended a small Catholic High School, and we were to play at the inaugural should Bobby take the presidency.

Earlier that month, I was fortunate enough to meet Eunice Shriver, Ethel Kennedy, and Pierre Salinger, when they addressed our student body.

Anyway, my letter to him was full of youthful silliness. Lots of exclamation points. I invited him and his brother to our home for dinner, and a few games of pool.

A few weeks later, a response found its way to our mail box. Not the standard "Thanks for your support" letter. It addressed my concerns and my invitation. He said that if time permitted, he and Bobby would take me up on my kind offer. :)
Needless to say, I was thrilled...even though I knew it would never happen.

Time would not permit it.

So, wish me luck! I know exactly what box it is in. But, that box is buried somewhere under a few decades' worth of other memories I chose not to part with.

Thanks, Teddy.

Life marches on.

4. Would you be willing to post a picture of it, or a portion of it?
There's something about hand-written letters that I love seeing. In these days, everything looks the same typed. There's something special about a person's handwriting.

I'm assuming it's hand-written. Maybe not.

5. No, it was not hand-written.
But the signature was the real thing, not a stamp. And, given the uniqueness of the message, I assume he dictated it.

If I am able to dig it out, I will post it.
