Who else would like to see Rachel Maddow in the US Senate?
I believe that Rachel is a resident of Massachusetts.

No reason why it always has to be an old white guy.

What could be cooler than that? :eyes:

1. If the people of Massachusetts want to elect her, why not?
It's their choice.

8. IMO, Sir Ted would back Rep. Michael Capuano, proud member of the Progressive Caucus.

Besides, my guess is that Rachael lives in the NYC metro area now, convenient to the MSNBC studios.

3. I would rather see her hosting Meet the Press or expanding her media influence
in other ways. We really need her to counter all the right wing flacks.

12. I concur totally
I love the way she kicks ass. And she does kick ass. She's rapidly becoming someone I trust to tell the truth.

14. Maybe she is too honest to be a politician?
For example, here is part of an interview she did with The Nation in the summer of 2008:

During an incendiary primary season, Maddow maintained an almost maddening equilibrium, expressing dismay and appreciation for just about every candidate. She was very hard on Clinton; her face still hardens when she talks about the 3 am red phone ad, which she calls "an abomination," and Clinton's war vote, which she says is "unforgivable." But Maddow also finds herself "frequently underwhelmed" by Obama. "He got it right in opposing the war," she says, "but his war policy stuff now is bullshit. It's total bullshit, and I've never been impressed by it. One or two brigades a month? You want your son to be in the last brigade?"

Contrary to widely held opinion, Maddow did not endorse a candidate in the primary. "I have never and still don't think of myself as an Obama supporter, either professionally or actually," says Maddow, adding that she feels "liberated by having a professional role in which it's probably better for me not to take sides."

"She is a civics geek," says Vanessa Silverton-Peel, executive producer of The Rachel Maddow Show. "She wants to talk about AIDS in prison and the Constitution and the war in Iraq. Policy is her main focus. Not winning elections."

So I am afraid it is very unlikely that Rachel would ever run for public office.

But on the other hand - if Al Franken can do it ...

5. And Her Qualifications Are?
I like Rachel right where she's at...and I'll bet she does as well. The asset that Ted Kennedy had that will be missed was his ability to get things done; build up the political relationships and know how to play the game. While Rachel is bright, she hasn't stood for any political office and would be at a severe disadvantage in the byzantine world of the Senate.

I'm hoping the Massetchussets legislature acts promptly to allow Gov. Patrick to appoint someone until a special election is held...and I trust the people of Massetchussets to select a quality replacement. Meanwhile, Rachel needs to keep on keeping on on the teevee.

9. Have you ever seen her resume? Check this out...
Let's JUST take her educational background:

"A graduate of Castro Valley High School in Castro Valley, California, Maddow earned a degree in public policy from Stanford University in 1994. At graduation she was awarded the John Gardner Fellowship. She was also the recipient of a Rhodes Scholarship and began her postgraduate study in 1995 at Lincoln College, Oxford. In 2001, she completed her Doctor of Philosophy degree in political science from the University of Oxford."

Many are elected to public office - yes, even the U.S. Senate - with far less.

10. More Suited For Journalism
I've followed Rachel from her early AAR days. Yes, we have many in the Senate whose education is far less, but their wallets are far thicker.

So few of the "journalists" on the teevee have more than a communications degree...it's refreshing to see/hear Dr. Maddow anylize an issue and a rare voice of reason and intelligence that is the cesspool of cable news.

13. wow, I never knew that...
in that case, I hope she never leaves her curent post for an elected office. we need her here, and she would get no respect there....like the smart kid on the playground (though I bet Rachel could hold her own against the schoolyard bully)
