so someone thought it was funny to sign me up for the FRC newsletter
out of curiosity I decided to check out what their latest plans are and they seem to be trying to politicize the churches, I am shocked, shocked I say!

from their Townhall Kit:

No one thought the church an odd setting for discussing the fundamental issues of government. The church had been, from days of the earliest settlements in the New World, the focal point of education, debate and action about the most pressing moral and political matters of the day.
Today must be no different. The leaders God has raised up for His people have to be ready to proclaim “the whole counsel of God” concerning the Bible’s clear instructions about the sacredness of human life, from conception (“You knit me in my mother’s womb” – Ps. 139:13) to natural death (“precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints” – Ps. 116:15).

Um, :wtf:

2. Send the list to the IRS?
Sounds like any churches involved should lose their non-profit status for politicking.

6. Let them politicize ....
All the right wing fundie churches. They start dealing in politics and they will lose there 503(c) status which keeps them from having to pay taxes. Then the screaming will begin.;)

Bush tried to pull it from the Quakers because we are a peace church which has always advocated against war and violence. When he didn't succeed, he started tapping Quaker phones and sending thugs to Quaker meetings to "listen in," as if what was said was somehow secret. Not. Meetings for Worship are open to all, even thugs, and nothing said there is secret. If it is a silent meeting for worship like mine, not much is said at all. The silence is the point. That must have been thrilling for all and sundry who went to spy.;)

Bush also pulled the non profit status from an Episcopal church for speaking out against war in general. They had also been known for their pacifist views for years. I believe they are still in court over their status.

Please excuse my enjoyment, but it would be nice to see the shoe on the other foot and pinching it hard. In the "earliest times" there was no income tax and most of the small churches had less to lose as far as owned property and donations.
