However, Robin Hood was one of my favorite stories. In the television realm, I believe PBS (maybe one of the other channels) had a wonderful series of the same title some 20+ years ago. I seem to recall it running for several seasons.
As I've thought about the metaphor of the story, and knowing what I do of fiction writers, I believe this story was simply a method for the original writer to create a world they liked, rather than the one they saw played out in reality in current times and historically from times immemorial.
So, I guess, "No" to at least your seeming conclusion. It didn't seem at all a hate-based story with the intent to evoke, though in order for the story to be identifiable in readers' minds, it needed to have the bad guy have bad things happen to them.
Instead, Robin Hood was a love story of the highest order. At least that's my take on it.
