Posted 1:30 a.m. Fri., Aug. 21: Some local supporters of health-care reform intend to show up as pretend "billionaires'' on Saturday outside the St. Louis office of U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., to mock the insurance companies and executives they say are bankrolling the Tea Party critics.
The mock "billionaire" rally is to begin at 11:30 a.m. Saturday -- a half-hour before the Tea Partiers gather for their own themed event outside the senator's office.
The pretend anti-health care rally will "decry recent attempts to provide health insurance for the sick, at the expense of insurance industry profits,'' organizers said.
"I'm sick of the government trying to interfere with my business." said Chauncey Hamilton Van Buren III, the pretend chairman of the Billionaire organization, in a tongue-in-cheek release sent out late Thursday. "Rationing of health care is supposed to be my job, and it pays me very well!"
The release mocked the Tea Party critics, via Van Buren. "It is reassuring to see the confused, unwashed masses still willing to come out and take a stand against their own interest." Van Buren said. (Remember, he's not real.)
