Does anyone use Credo Mobile cellphone?
It's a part of Working Assets and they contribute part of your bill to progressive organizations.

Right now they have a free contract buyout up to $200, free phone, calls are carried on Spring network, rate plans starting at $29.99.

I've never heard of them and don't know anybody who uses them but I'm intrigued.

I want to hear from anyone who uses them.

2. I receive such offers in my email

I'm considering going with them as I don't have a cellphone just now and I'm not too excited with AT&T...

4. I've been tempted
. . . but I already have Sprint, with a 23% discount (which they give to anyone working in health care), so it's hard to walk away from. I think if Credo ever offers the iPhone, it might be worth making the jump.

Their deal is that you can try them out without a contract for 30 days, so you could experiment a little. I can attest to the quality of Sprint (which is their actual carrier), if that helps. It seems to suck much less than my son's Cingular/AT&T service, for sure (he's plagued by dropped calls and crappy sound quality, and I rarely have problems).

7. Cingular/AT&T service...dropped calls and crappy sound quality...
Man, does this ever resonate! Both my wife and daughter have Cingular/AT&T and the service/quality is crappy to the nth degree! Either they're cutting off or I'm having to have them repeat themselves so I can understand them.

But I'm still tempted with Credo's offer...

5. I've had them for going on... 8 years now?
Maybe 9. Anyway, I love them. Their phones are not always the most up to date and latest, but their customer service staff is all in San Francisco, CA. On top of that, they refused to cooperate with Bush when other phone companies just handed over the records.

On Election Day, you can call everyone in the US for free, you can call Congress without using any minutes, and they are just the nicest people ever.

Annnddddd, to top it all off, I get to vote every month on where the money goes. They have a huge listing of choices on where you would like them to send it.

14. That sounds very cool.
They really aren't much cheaper than the Verizon plan we have but every little bit helps and I like the fact they are a progressive company.

8. We have Credo Mobile
Here is my review:

Pluses: Excellent customer service. You always reach a real person quickly. Their call centers are in New England and eastern Canada. They don't penalize you when you're late with a payment. Working Assets is a progressive company and contributes a small portion of your payment to progressive causes.

Minuses: They are more expensive than other companies and have a limited selection of phones. We have a family plan and are unable to call my son's Credo phone from our other Credo phones when we are visiting him at college two hours south of us. This problem has been going on for a year and if they can't fix it this weekend, he's getting a new cell phone with a new company.

9. I use Credo. I love a lot of what they do... but
it drives me nuts that each monthly bill contains about 40 pages of reports, ads, updates, etc. I know they use recycled paper but still, it's all super wasteful and not very progressive. My old T-mobile and Cingular bills never used even 1/3 of the paper as Credo.

10. I've used them for over 2 yrs. with few problems.
The largest problem was when I increased the total of number of phones to 4 (added 2) and I told them to turn texting and web access off on those phones as those services were supposed to be off on the first two. Long story short, they screwed up, teenaged boy got into trouble with the texting, they took care of it, but it was their calling me frequently to ask if I really wanted the services off that was getting on my nerves.

I suppose I need to come up with more ways to state yes, than just yes.

13. CREDO mobile
I switched to CREDO about 8 months ago and love the service. I switched from Verizon to a less expensive monthly rate at CREDO. I was a bit annoyed at the monthly statement with all the pages and explanations - so have switched to online receipt of statement and billing. It was a very simple transition; they paid off my Verizon plan.

15. I think the $200 they are offering would pay off my contract.
Edited on Wed Aug-19-09 05:53 PM by ohheckyeah
I think I'll just have trouble getting my husband to switch because of all the contacts in his present phone. I guess I can offer to move them to the new phone for him.

Do you really get to keep your present phone number? That would be a big factor in whether or not we switch.

I really like the fact they didn't cave in to illegal wiretapping.

16. Didn't Working Assets/Credo start out with one of the Ben and Jerry's guys?
The VT ice cream guys. I think so.

I hear it is good. I know if you get the phone through DFA political calls used to be free.

18. You can/could order a phone through DFA.
I think it was that one as DFA and Working assets teamed up a lot.

26. A slight correction. It was just a name change from "Working Assets."
Been with them for a very long time, 15-20 years maybe, for my land line Long Distance service. Why give money to profit the monsters when when the same functionality can be obtained while helping good people and good causes? Once I learned that I had the second option, the decision was easy.
