I'm sure glad I didn't vote Republican.
If I had, the government would have probably given the treasury away to the banks, we'd still be escalating our military presence somewhere in the Middle East, unemployment would be in double digits, the people who tortured in my name would still be unpunished, there would be no proposals for a media fairness doctrine, Bush's Assistant U.S. Atorneys would still be in place, and we would have no prospect in sight for universal health care.

Too bad, though, that we had no option to vote "Democratic". Maybe next time.

4. Next time it may be Green.
I absolutely love it that I have Feingold and Obey to vote for, and my state people are pretty good. But Obama was my next-to-last choice simply because I knew he was no Progressive (my last choice wasn't either, but I'm not going to name her), and if he lets me down too many times...

Sarah would be great for my priorities!

3. Yea I know... I know... an administration working its ass off in 7 months
without a break to try and correct 8+ years of pilfering, disrespect for the country, the military and human rights isn't enough for you... jesus. You people are self-defeating whiners.

And MNDemNY, you were an ardent Clinton supporter. I'm sure Hillary would have pulled us out of Iraq and Afghanistan immediately, immediately threw Cheney in jail and automatically would have passed health care reform oh, and while she was at it, talked to Iran who she labeled a terrorist state and an enemy... and not to be the subject of diplomacy...

11. I was NEVER a Clinton supporter. Not even "Slick Willy".
FYI I voted for Kucinich in the primaries, I voted, and worked and donated $ to Obama in the General. In '92 I supported Jesse Jackson and later Jerry Brown in the Primaries. Voted for and supported with $ Clinton in the GE. So fuck your lyin' ass.I am a DEMOCRAT, have been longer then you have been breathing. The "yellowest" of dogs! So, again, fuck you, and eat shit.

13. Well, don't you express you displeasure with my post in a thoughtful manner.
I seem to recall your posts during the primary and if I'm mistaken, I apologize.

However, to condemn the president in the manner that you and Jackpine have in this post shows that you are out of touch with the majority of people in this party and probably, the majority of the people in this country.

No, the president isn't perfect, but he is working extremely hard to try and right the wrongs that have been committed against this country, and frankly the world by previous administrations. I, for one, will give him more than 7 months.

14. I was not a fan of Obama in the primaries. That did NOT make me a supporter of Clinton.
I will condemn the president , and any other elected official in any non-violent manner that I choose. If free speech offends you, move to North Korea.

5. and Souter would've been replaced by a white male Scalia clone
And the minimum wage wouldn't have been raised, and SCHIP wouldn't be law and the economy would be further in the toilet than it is, and we'd probably be threatening to bomb Iran in the next couple of weeks. Oh, and the Omnibus Public Lands Management bill expanding protected areas by millions of acres, and teh Helping Families Save Their HOmes Act assisting people facing imminent foreclosure, and the Credit Cardholders Bill of Rights Act wouldn't be law. And we wouldn't have executive orders limiting interrogation methods that can be used, or rolling back the policy of denying federal aid to family planning organizations that provide abortion services, or allowing broader stem cell research, or expanding benefits available to same sex partners of federal employees.

But none of that would bother you I guess.

Would I like for each of these actions to have gone further? Of course. But when was the last time you saw a repub voting against a tax cut bill because it didn't cut taxes completely? They take their victories one at a time and build on them. You look at our victories as defeats.

Sad.

10. Point by point rebuttal to your nonsense

the government would have probably given the treasury away to the banks

The first half of the TARP program.. the $350 billion given out by Paulson... had no strings attached and was indeed a giveaway.

The second half of the TARP program... the $350 billion given out by Geithner... had executive pay and bonus restrictions attached and is the main reason that a large chunk of that has been paid back to the government, because the banks didn't want the restrictions.

we'd still be escalating our military presence somewhere in the Middle East

We're drawing down our presence in Iraq... and increasing the focus on Afghanistan, where it should have been all along. Which, coincidentally, is what Obama said he would do all throughout the campaign. So you got EXACTLY what you voted for.

unemployment would be in double digits

Unemployment is at 9.4%... after peaking at 9.5% in June. It hasn't reached double-digits... and the biggest reason it hasn't is because of Obama's stimulus program.

the people who tortured in my name would still be unpunished

The process has begun under AG Holder. Prosecutions like this take months and years. It's not something that could happen in just a few months. But the process has begun.

there would be no proposals for a media fairness doctrine

All through the campaign, Obama said he was NOT in favor of a return of the fairness doctrine. Again, you got exactly what you voted for.

The quickest way to turn right-wing shock jocks into martyrs is to propose a return of the fairness doctrine. Our ideas are better, so we shouldn't be afraid of right-wing liars.

The people saw through them in November of 2006 and 2008.... and the majority of them will continue to do so.

Bush's Assistant U.S. Atorneys would still be in place

So... you're advocating that ... because the Bush administration broke the law by firing liberal-leaning US attorneys that Obama should also break the law by doing the same thing to conservative ones?

I thought we wanted a new President so we could return to the rule of law?

..or are you more interested in political tit-for-tat instead of for doing what is legal and correct?

we would have no prospect in sight for universal health care

By Christmas, Obama will sign a health care reform bill that includes a public option. The greatest leap forward in health care in this country since Medicare was enacted in 1965.

You're a fucking idiot.

12. I don't think Jackpine Radical is an idiot (I wouldn't know about "fucking")
Some of your responses are at least a little pollyannish - odds are we won't get a public office by Christmas, or ever. The prosecution of those involved with Torture may have begun but it's a half hearted effort at best, and might well not get anywhere.

Is Obama better than McCain would have been? Yes. Unless you are holding out hope for a people's revolution, Obama is clearly a step forward. But he's not that big a step, and it's not unreasonable to be a bit disappointed with where he is (even though he was clearly a Clintonist middle of the roader from the beginning).
