Don Wildmon, founder of Christian right group AFA, hospitalized in critical condition

TUPELO, Miss. - The Rev. Don Wildmon, founder of the American Family Association, has been hospitalized in critical condition at a Tupelo hospital for treatment of meningitis.

AFA President Tim Wildmon said his 71-year-old father was diagnosed with the disease over the weekend. On Monday, Wildmon said his father's condition had improved over the last 24 hours. Meningitis is an inflammation of the membranes covering the brain and spinal cord.

Don Wildmon's Christian right organization began as the National Federation for Decency in 1977, promoting family values and waging boycotts to combat what it deemed pornography and violence on television and in magazines.

8. Back in the 1980s we somehow got on his mailing list

and he would rail about how horrible TV was and would print word for word anything sexually scandalous that was on TV. We would always look at it and think "he is enjoying this way too much and if it is so bad, why does he print it up and send it out to everyone?"
