Surprise, Surprise! Republicans support lowering the age of Medicare!
I was just out with several golfers who are middle right in their politics. They are so worried about a public option. But when I suggested that we lower the age to enter Medicare, they were all for it.

I suggested lowering it to 62, then to 55 after a period of years. It was OK with them. For some reason they would just love to get into Medicare before 65. Maybe because they know they would save some money.

Medicare is something everyone knows about. Maybe we should forget about creating something new and work on expanding Medicare to include younger Americans.

1. I agree with them - let's include fetuses all the way to end of life.
I've been saying this from the start. Put everyone in medicare - then tinker with it behind the scenes over time to get some of the privatization out of it.

2. Except we haven't heard this from anyone in Congress.
They think Medicare is "socialized medicine".

4. Then let's slip it in the next Defense Appropriations bill
Shouldn't raise much of a ruckus then.

5. So why would they object if it were lowered to twenty or thirty or forty
year olds? Is it because they didn't get theirs back when they were that age.

6. People feel this way because Medicare works. Expanding it makes sense. Don't call it reform and we
might get away with it.

7. Lowering the age for Medicare -- it would be such an easier sell than what Congress is doing. (nt)
