We opened a checking account some 7 years ago, got an ATM card with is also a VISA and thought it was nice that using it earned us some sort of cash back. About 0.25% of the transactions.
But recently I noticed that the amount of the "Reward" has not moved since the beginning of the year. Actually, it has not moved since October 2007!
So I called the bank was was admonished that "not every transaction can be considered for a reward." Oh yeah? Since when? My transactions are the same: groceries and prescriptions which, I consider, have to be paid from available funds, not put on credit.
"You changed the rules of the game," I told the rep. She must be new since she really did not know, just told me to go online and find the list of merchants. I am sure that they have a list of merchants where I do not shop. And, I suppose, this is one way for them to continue to squeeze, since we do not generate overdraft fees.
Funny thing, though. Several months ago I was at a branch to inquire, and the chief cashier chimed in: yes, I noticed it too. And a "banker" told me to get a new card which, of course, has done nothing.
