White House appears ready to drop 'public option'
This tells me MORE of how I will vote next time round than anything else out there. It's all about winning. Well let me clue you folks in Washington in about something--you will NOT win without the grass roots. You simply will not. So take your hollow victory that you are planning on and shove it up your fucking asses. This is NOT what we voted for. This is NOT the mandate we DELIVERED to you.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_health_care_overhaul
>>>snip
WASHINGTON – Bowing to Republican pressure and an uneasy public, President Barack Obama's administration signaled Sunday it is ready to abandon the idea of giving Americans the option of government-run insurance as part of a new health care system.

Facing mounting opposition to the overhaul, administration officials left open the chance for a compromise with Republicans that would include health insurance cooperatives instead of a government-run plan. Such a concession probably would enrage Obama's liberal supporters but could deliver a much-needed victory on a top domestic priority opposed by GOP lawmakers.

they would play the 20%'ers on a continuous loop, but if the rest of us hit the streets, it would be a virtual media shutout.

12. Therein lies the rub
we've ALL been gobsmacked.
Even those of us with insurance now will pay dearly for this failed debacle. I have no illusions that the $1.4 million per DAY that these robber baron insurance execs have poured into this fight won't be recovered after they win through our premiums and reducing our coverage. This isn't about taking care of the healthcare needs of Americans, it is about lining the pockets of the robber barons. The loss of this battle means that they have won the war for at least the next 20 years and we are ALL the spoils of war.

Obama's weekly address of 17 July 2009
Quote from the address:

"<...> That's why any plan I sign must include an insurance exchange; a one-stop shopping marketplace where you can compare the benefits, costs and track records of a variety of plans - including a public option to increase competition and keep insurance companies honest, and choose what's best for your family. <...>"

41. Ditto -- right down to the "ten years" part.
Only I won't be eligible for Medicare for another 15 years. I'm sweating out the next two years until I can apply for AARP -- only I'm not sure if I'll be eligible at 50, or have to wait 'til 55.

And a big, fat P.S. to Obama and the rest of the "Democrats" who don't give a shit about REAL people: If I could have AFFORDED health insurance for the past TEN FUCKING YEARS I have been without it (and during which time I have not seen a doctor, even once, let alone gone to a fucking emergency room, no matter what ailed me), don't you think I would have BOUGHT IT?

These epic-failure "leaders" haven't the first clue what it's like to feel a strange lump in your neck and hope to God it's not cancer, but if it is, what's the use in finding out, because you won't be able to afford treatment anyway (and hell, I'm worth more dead than alive thanks to cheap life insurance I got when I was 22)... or to Google all night to try to figure out what that sharp pain under your ribcage is that just won't go away... or wonder if that persistent leg cramp is just a charley horse, or the start of peripheral artery disease... or wonder if irregular periods are signaling the onset of menopause, or if you've got cervical cancer -- and then spend your nights praying it's really menopause this time, because that means your estrogen level will start dropping, which means you stand far less chance of having to go through surgery, AGAIN, for ovarian cysts and fibroid tumors, the way you did when you HAD insurance, when you HAD a job, in another lifetime...

"Out of touch." Was there ever a greater understatement than that phrase?

So, now what are they going to do -- fine me if I don't (read: can't) pony up? Garnish my nonexistent wages? Throw me in jail -- where I'll get the fucking insurance I couldn't afford in the first place, for FREE?!

(None of this directed at you, Ommm -- but I'm sure you can understand my anger.)

15. It will take a national strike
period.

And until Muricans wake up to that reality NOTHING will change.

I am now more convinced than ever that this is us vs them, don't care what party.

It is the people vs the elites. We want health care, of course we can't have it.

Well folks, when will the American people finally go on a national strike? Demonstrations don't matter, calls don't matter... so it is time.

By the way, I don't expect to see that in my lifetime, at all. The murican people doing what peoples aroudn the world do when their governments refuse to do what they want? You kid me right? This has become a nation of cowards essentially, and I am not proud to post this. Manipulated in every respect of the word.

Oh and before you say it, there were three calls for strikes in the years of bush. I participated in each one of them... and they failed because people would not, could not be bothered. So yes, I am done... (well reality is that once we have a call for another one I will stupidly participate knowing full well that it is me and two other idiots who are truly committed to change)

40. My wife and I have been "on strike" since 2004.
In 2006 we Cashed Out all IRAs, sold all Stocks and bought property in The Woods.
We don't buy anything NEW and grow a good percentage our our food.
If we can't make something ourselves, we buy or barter 2nd Hand or Salvage and make it work, or do without.
We don't use credit cards, "borrow" money, or pay a mortgage.

Our "taxable" income is close to poverty levels, but we live well, and take care of ourselves.
We are no longer Good American Consumers.
Next year, we will "consume" even less.

We had hoped that The Democrats would provide a legitimate "Public Option" for Health Care, but that does not look good. I'm still a few years away from Medicare, but I will NOT buy "Health Insurance" from a For Profit Corporation even if mandated to do so.

Fuck Them.
My "Health Insurance" will remain a pistol in the mouth until then.

As in I really REALLY hope you don't vote Republican at the next election. We could with a rest from Republicans, the rest of us out here beyond American borders.

It's not like they have any influence on our politics at the moment, but if they're allowed to get back in the saddle and start up all the Bush crap AGAIN... wellll.... that would be bad. European politicians often take their cure from American ones. It might not be a nice thing for liberals to hear, but it's true.

"President Still Favors Public Option as a Means of Creating Competition and Choice, says Gibbs"
Source: CBS News/Face the Nation

(CBS)White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said on Face the Nation Sunday that President Obama is still in favor a government-sponsored health insurance plan -- but does not intend to replicate the beleaguered U.S. Postal Service.

The federal government would be able to successfully administer a health insurance option, Gibbs told CBS Anchor Harry Smith, even though the government-run Postal Service is facing serious financial problems.

"I don't think he was saying that what we were going to do is create the postal service for healthcare," Gibbs said. "The president believes this option of a government plan is the best way to provide choice and competition."

Kathleen Sebelius is saying one thing about the public option. However, Robert Gibbs is saying another.

"Crooks & Liars: White House reiterates its support of the Public Option"

Oh, the Republicans have been having a field day with this mantra - that employers would shunt their employees into the public plan. But they're really upset for the same reason Sebelius mentioned as a positive: Job lock. Above all else, the Republican party stands for cheap, disposable labor with no rights or protections. God forbid you should have a public option - you could up and leave your job anytime you wanted!

In the meantime, the White House released this statement late this afternoon:

"Nothing has changed. POTUS has always said that what is essential is that health insurance reform must lower costs, ensure that there are affordable options for all Americans and increase choice and competition. He believes the public option is the best way to achieve those goals."

Everybody....... caaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalm dooooooooooooown.
