It never ceases to amaze me that the Rightwing moneybags have succeeded in getting people up in arms protesting about affordable health care!! Did you EVER think you'd see people outraged that there could be affordable health care?! "Stop health care!" I mean, it's crazy on its face.
If they could manage this, they could turn the gullible public against ANYthing. Here's a game to test that.
1. Think of anything that's basically good for people (or at least harmless).
2. Figure out how the Rightwing machine could get people out there holding signs, outraged against it, going against their own interests.
For example: Toothpaste. If they wanted to, they could point to some nefarious ingredient in toothpaste and claim that some of it's ingested and it's been shown to make people easy to brainwash. They'd get up in arms about dentists giving away toothpaste at every visit, and note that the liberal establishment is not giving away toothpaste to poorer people who can't afford dentists. It's a plot to get the hard-working people to pay more taxes, benefitting the lazy people who don't go to dentists! And now the FDA -- an arm of the government -- is reaching into citizen's mouths, regulating what can and can't go into toothpaste, getting in between you and your gums! If this isn't stopped, it could go further -- vitamins, aspirin, even dental floss, which makes gums bleed and thus could cause AIDs. All patriots should stop using toothpaste and get out there with clothespins over their lips to protest! "Listen to Rush! We won't brush!"
I could see them making people outraged about soap. ("Fight the power, we won't shower!")
Cereal bowls. Cellphones. Socks. I mean, ANYthing.
Pick any random thing in the room where you are right now, and come up with how the rightwing could lie and spin people into a lather over it!
