In the larger sense, Obama is arguing for incremental change.
He made a side comment to the point in Colorado tonight, noting objection to his proposals from the left and the right. I thought he made a good case. It was clearer than I've seen made recently and addressed some of my concerns, as a Medicare-for-all supporter. I understood his POV.

I remain "lefter than Obama" on this issue, yet will likely support eventual resolution out of the Congress in September. Remember - there's no final bill crafted from the various committees so far.

There's still time for them to hear your comments.

2. IMHO, it's human nature to fear change.

Some people can tolerate it better than others. As we can see, the town hall radicals aren't able to handle change at all, and they're using that for an as excuse for acting out on hatred.

To embrace change incrementally is probably a wise move by Obama.

3. Who cares what the screaming mob thinks?
In a democracy, it should matter only what the majority thinks. Or have we become a nation of mob rule? The overwhelming majority of the voting public voted for real change last November, not meaningless, incremental change. That is what Obama campaigned on, bold action to deliver real change. But that doesn't seem to be what he's delivering now. I hope he hasn't giving in to the pressure of the screaming mob on one side, and the pharma lobbyists on the other, as he seems to be doing now.

6. In our democracy, it's up to our elected representatives to pass the laws.

As much as I'd like to see a single payer system in this country, it's just not going to happen right now.

Our elected representatives apparently do care what the screaming mob thinks. So, unfortunately, does the media.

7. Who said anything about single payer?
the people who voted for him only want to see him keep his promise to create a strong public option, stronger regulation of the insurance industry, ability for Medicare to negotiate for drug prices, and allow competition, importation from Canada, breaking up the monopoly the drug companies have on the market. These are all things that he ran on. So far, I don't see any signs that he is living up to these campaign promises he has made.

4. I think he's making a mistake. He needs to take some notes out of FDR's
and LBJ's playbook on how they accomplished it. FDR got Social Security passed and LBJ got Medicare passed. Both fought the same propaganda machine that is hounding Obama right now, but neither "compromised" nor pandered to "bipartisanship", which is another way of saying, we are giving corporate whore Republicans everything they want.

5. 'Incremental'
is a euphemism for 'meaningless' btw. as in meaningless, ineffectual change.

I'll take it! I think those who can now get covered and those who are insured but have a catastrophic illness will disagree with the term meaningless if it gets passed.
