Georgia State Rep: Beat Pot Smokers With a Cane, Put Dealers to Death!

August 14, 2009

(ChattahBox)—Tommy Benton, Republican State. Rep. from Georgia wants to arrest all the dirty hippies in the State of Georgia who are caught taking “a hit” off of marijuana, and inflict corporal punishment by caning. Benton doesn’t stop there; he also suggests that people caught selling marijuana should be put to death, like they do in Singapore.

As many states have legalized marijuana for medical use and decriminalized possession of small quantities of the herb, Rep. Benton seeks to take the criminal justice system back 50 years. And worse, he supports the adopting of the harsh criminal justice system of Singapore, which has no jury trials, no free speech rights, executes drug offenders and inflicts corporal punishment, by caning for minor offenses.

Benton’s extreme views were recently made public, when responding to a constituent’s email expressing concern for law enforcement funds and resources wasted on the arresting and jailing of minor drug offenders. Benton’s outrageous response was forwarded to the organization NORML.

In his email response dated July 29, Benton wrote: “Thanks for the email. We will have to agree to disagree on this and whether or not money is wasted (by mandating the state to prosecute minor marijuana offenders). I am opposed to the legalization of marijuana.

6. I think marijuana should be legal.
And after hearing that Obama broke his campaign promise to stop the DEA raids in states where it's legal, like California, it just makes me even more glad that I voted for Mike Gravel for President.

9. Welcome to DU-
I'm afraid you're not going to make a lot of friends here with the Gravel admission. Don't get me wrong, I actually like the guy, even interviewed his daughter, but that was a vote you threw away.
