My mom likes it because she can sign on in the morning and get a "touch" from her daughter, grandkids, sister, etc... in a quick shot. I see the utility in that, and I suppose it's an improvement over email in that you don't feel obligated to keep the correspondence going, not to mention that people don't send you all that chain-mail crap. It's just not something I enjoy doing. Because it's public, it tends to be sweet and gooey.
