Grassley: I phoned his office this morning
and filled the young lady's ear full for several minutes regarding that stunt he pulled in Winterset yesterday. I told her that I wanted a response from him and to be on the record.

The message that I wanted to relay was that, given his performance yesterday, his constituents cannot count on him to be an honest broker for meaningful healthcare reform. That we absolutely need healtcare reform and he is putting that in jeopardy. I told her he needs to realize that he has many constitutents who either don't have insurance, are underinsured, have pre-existing conditions that preclude them from becoming insured, and/or also may be unemployed. I pointed out that my husband is beyond retirement age and continues to work to keep the insurance we have. I am under retirement age, unemployed right now, and need medical coverage but would be uninsurable otherwise. There are millions like us out in the nation, and we need to be represented fairly too. I asked her to ask Grassley how he intends to address the very real life needs of people like us and that he should be aware we are paying attention to political stunts. The need for reform of healthcare is greater than any politician's need to be re-elected. I told her that I especially wanted to pass that on to him.

We are paying attention.

Anyone else care to join me in a call to Senator Lawnmowerman and share a real life situation with him. We vote. Corporations don't.

1. Hey skid
at least he showed his true colors yesterday-we now know where he stands and what he'll use to justify his no vote next month-fuck him and fuck anybody else that tries to get in the way of the oncoming train of change-HCR is getting done either with or withOUT them-we only need 51 votes. Good on you for giving them hell.

"The need for reform of healthcare is greater than any politician's need to be re-elected".

11. They also work for the screamers. In a better world
the goal would be the greatest good for the greatest number and I don't mean the greatest number of insurance executives and lobbyists finances.

In a saner world we would not allow members of a committee to get money from that company/interest. Judges aren't allowed to have the appearance of impropriety.
For instance my uncle was running for judge here and I offered a check for his campaign...I thought he was going to do back flips to get away from me. He and my aunt wouldn't touch it even when I said it was a late birthday present. I had to go through one of their staff (and even though I assured him if I was charged with a crime and he let me off I would swear it was because he was related to me, not the money) He took it seriously.
One issue is 'If Impartiality Might Reasonably Be Questioned'. Not just avoiding wrong doing anything that might look like wrongdoing even if it isn't.

So our congressmen get MILLIONS from the very interest they are writing bills for, committees they chair...and they say "Oh it doesn't affect my vote" We just have to take their word for it but. Maybe it's true but it glaringly has the appearance of impropriety.
This health care fight has made me more aware than ever how sick this system is. If not for the money, if really being decided for the good of the people, this would be an entirely different debate and an entirely different bill.
Wonder how other countries handle such finances...maybe that's why they have single payer (and gun restrictions)
I suppose Congress makes the rules for themselves? We should be able to sue. Really. We should be able to change this, it builds corruption into the system. I know public financing would do a lot but until we get that...this is so not okay. We should be marching and yelling about that issue.

7. I hate calling his office.
The last two people in his office that I talked to made that Katy Abram look like a genius.

12. I emailed Grassley today and told him that the people of Iowa should be embarrassed
To have him represent them. Then I called the office of my Senator, Sen. Bill Nelson, who is on the same committee, and told him that I want him to support a public option (he's already said he will not support single payer) and that I thought the time for bipartisanship is OVER when Republicans like Grassley are willing to perpetuate such lies.

15. The right sees Grassley as too liberal.
He's likely to have a wingnut primary challenger in 2010. I wonder if Krause (D) would have an easier time beating Grassley or the Wingnut.
