Documents show how Karl Rove targeted U.S. Attorney from FloridaBy Alex Leary
August 12, 2009
The House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday released
thousands of pages of documents related to the Bush Administration's efforts to fire U.S. Attorneys, and on the list was one from Florida.
The e-mail at left (click to enlarge) shows how Karl Rove identified attorneys that could be replaced, including Greg Miller of Tallahassee, the U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Florida.
That Miller was on the hit list has been known for some time (here's a
St. Petersburg Times story) but the newly released documents provide
more insight into the effort.
Ultimately, Miller was not among the nine who were fired. He resigned in 2008 to practice private law.

Thanks. We will start working the process 10 identify suitable candidates for your office to consider. Kan and I
also spoke about some of the states and the breakdown in getting good candidates. I will work with your staff to
help rectify that situation.

Thanks. Sara, At this point, we should only be identifying sources not candidates. We have to notify the ,
individuals that we are looking for replacements so they are not caught off guard or hear they are being replaced
off the street. Thanks for your help and at the point in time (soon)we are ready to move to identifying candidates.
I will let you know.
