Senator Harkin's townhall.
He started out talking about if we would like something that would double in price every few years, could drop you whenever they feel like it, etc. He said that that is what we have now and it isn't working.

When the yellers, started to bark, he kept asking them what they would suggest. Of course they couldn't suggest anything.

The loonies were there. One lady said that she didn't want them to send people to her home to tell her when to die.

Most of the loonies were yelling about tort reform. Senator Harkin explained that most lawsuits are filed by the government to get back funds that were paid to corporations that had overcharged the government. (Although I can't see why, if they've been ruled to be a person, they can't be charged and fined like a person.) They seem to think that if only we had tort reform everything would be ok.

One lady said she was scared. (I was scared for 8 friggin' years, welcome to the club)

One lady yelled that she didn't appreciate being called un-American. ( That's when I turned around and said that "neither did we the last 8 years")

All but 2 of the questions came from the loonies. If they got too wild, we got a little rowdy back.

One man, got up and said that he was on Tri-care and wondered that if he deserved that then don't all other Americans deserve that too? (Huge round of applause)

Then there was a person that resented having those doctors with greencards. (Tom politely pointed out that there is a shortage of family practioniners.)

Before the start, some guy started talking to me about how great insurance was. I pointed out that most people think they have good insurance until they try to use it.

It really wasn't as rowdy, as I thought it would be. Tom did a good job.
