August 11, 2009 White House e-mails show that former White House political adviser Karl Rove was deeply involved in the firing of a U.S. attorney in New Mexico. The documents released Tuesday by a congressman show extensive communication between Rove and former White House Counsel Harriet Miers over the firing of U.S. Attorney David Iglesias. Iglesias was one of nine U.S. attorneys fired in part for apparently not being sufficiently loyal to the Republican administration.

The ensuing uproar led to a series of damaging revelations about the Bush administration's political meddling with the Justice Department and the eventual resignation of then-attorney general Alberto Gonzales.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers said the documents show Rove was the driving force behind the firings.

4. I'm 40 pages into Mier's testimony and she's still denying any knowledge of it.
Rove's involvement that is. But read this question and answer for a real grin: (pages 39 and 40)

Q Do you recall any case where the suggestion for the removal of a particular U.S. Attorney originated in the Office of Political Affairs rather than the Department of Justice?

A I think that's a good question. And I know that, for example, with respect to Mr. Iglesias that there were comments made about him and his performance. And those comments certainly could have been made at a Judicial Selection Committee meeting, but I don't recall it.
